This question includes EF and EL Falcons/Fairmonts/Fairlanes/LTDs as well:

Has anyone had a problem with their driver's seat bases?
I am referring to the four anchorage points on the seat bases, as I can move my mate's EF Fairmont seat base out a good 40mm from where it sits.

Is this dangerous, what causes it and how can it be fixed? Please help.

Because the rear bolt mounts rip out of the seat base.

Its either caused by age or by a problem i like to call "fat C*** syndrome".

The seat base at this point is weak as piss, and it tends to happen.

Can the rear bolts be oxy welded back up, or do I have to buy a new seat base, as the oxy weld may melt bigger holes in the seat base? Seen it happen on a DA LTD driver's seat as well.

Seat bases between DA and EL are completely different. Probably similar issue, just different areas that are broken.

If you take the seat base apart you might find that the bolts have been ripped out of the seat making welding a little tricky. Might be easier to get another seat base.

Either new or off a passenger seat, as they wont have the problems.

I'm sure you have a couple floating around for sale...

Just had to buy a replacement seat base for my sisters NF Fairlane yesterday. Brought a new one from Ford for $60.
