I am doing an EL Interior conversion in my ED, I want to setup the airbag system. I wanted to find out where components are for them, like the computer, sensor etc etc.

Cheers

Kyle

you may well find that its easier said than done, electrically, just transfer over the entire electrical system from the EF/EL, but the EA-ED body may not have a few things that the SRS system should have to work at its best

From memory the computer is up near the BEM, maybe behind it?
or is it on the other side of the column.

Can't 100% remember.

then there are 2 sensors.
One on the radiator support, one on the firewall, on the right hand side of the heaterbox.

Go and read Racedirectors Thread in the garage.

He transfered the complete wiring loom and functions, including airbags, from an EL to his EB

not only would this by highly illegal it would be dangerous.

When they are designing SRS airbag systems they design them to work down the percentage of a millisecond in time with the crumpling of the car. They also design the crumple zones differently etc.

This means an airbag which is physically/electrically the same in its installation in an EB instead of an EL may actually go off to early or too late. Do i need to remind you that an airbag that goes off too late may actually kill you if it hits you in the face at the right time?

I spent a bit of time in some serious conversation with ford engineers about the design of the cars / airbag systems and i certainly wouldnt be retro-fitting airbags to an EB, even though i can understand the seemingly good logic behind it.

if you want an EF/EL Interior with airbags, buy an EF/EL. That way you know the car will react exactly as expected.
