I bought 10$ blue leds off ebay from china, but didnt realise blue doesnt illuminate through the red/orange needles. I questioned a guy off ebay who was selling white dash conversions for AU's if he would sell me white/ but he wanted 50$ for them, if i sent him the orange ones i had.... So yeah, if anyone can shed some light on a cheap fix it would be much appreciated. driving at night without being able to check ur speed easily is as annoying as f***.

Some ED photos
Evening with lights on and night... When lights are off increments almost look black... so is very neat... These are white LED's with blue in the instrument faces... I bought some red small led's (cant think of the size the small 1's lol) i then soldered 30cm wire on each and hot glued them in behind the needles. to do this i had to take apart the dash at the same time i changed the odo globes to red ones and its now a red odometer : ) due to the orange filter not affecting it much i also did the ac button and fresh air button in blue the clock was going to go red but really cbf trying to pull apart the clock and do that ill try to get a pic

Here u go dragged my a** out to the shed
lol in the pics it looks like the needles are a little bright and dull is spots but its just the pic on real life its fine   Ive also got them going in the boot, and i was thinking of making a blue center light

strange.... in the EA.... I put bright blue LEDs, behind the trip comp, the climate control and the digital speedo and they all went blue...
did the same in the EL and the two digital displays stayed orange.. they must have changed the way the LED displays worked in the EF/EL... can anyone detail how they changed the display colour? is there just an orange filter I need to remove from the displays? |

the au's rely on the needles for their orange colour they are backed in orange and hence they filter the light orange
blue is gone completly as for the display colour it would have a filter in it, as for removing it id say leave it put in red led's it looks good

Yeah theres on orange filter on the displays its in the tech docu im pretty sure.

excellent.. I shall check it out..
was just surprised how easy I converted the EA ghia to blue LED's and then the same method didn't work on the EL displays. |

   and yes one of my blue leds is out.
