sounds like as ya said a short in the bcm/bem module as when you turn the key the should go out but upon sayin that what type of car is this is it sedan or wagon as i know with some cars a mostly ba wagons the switch on the tailgate s**t them selves by not extending, contracting out far enough to switch the lights on and off

it is a el sedan i have taken all the black buttons from the door to see if it was that but the light wont turn off and i also thought that it could be the light switch (which i replaced) and that didnt work either is there anyway i can find out if it is the bcm

Are you certain all the doors are locking when you do lock it with the key .... is the door open light still on when you start and drive the car???

I had a similar issue with mine ... kept thinking my doors were open when they were all shut.

I had already replaced the passenger actuator ... Ford informed me that door ajar is sensed via the locking actuator as well ... and is a common issue.

i am sure that the doors all the doors are locked and i know it isnt the actuator because i replaced all 4 today and the lights are all on when im driving and when i lock the doors the light stays on for a while then eventually dissapears ( like when u shut the door without using the button to lock it) but takes longer than usual i have spoken to ford and they told me that they would not have a clue and for me to go to the auto electrician

Judging on what's already been said, it certainly sounds like a BEM issue.

Since you mention the lights fade, I'll assume your car is a Futura, which would have a blue (mid series) BEM.
Probably your best bet would be to borrow an EL BEM off an FM member, and plug it in and see what happens - you can use a mid or low series EL BEM (assuming it's not a Fairmont).
I've got a mid series EL BEM, bit far away though.

If your BEM is functioning okay in all other respects, then you're not under pressure to change it ASAP.

NP.
If you do swap BEM's, be aware you need to go through the smartlock training thingy (the tech docos cover this)if you want the car to start, but for testing, you only need to turn ignition on to see if courtesy's go out.
