Hi

I have a 1996 EL Falcon XR6 and the rear drivers side door does not lock.

I bought a door lock actuator thinking that the old one was stuffed, but this did not fix the problem...

Therefore what else could be causing the door not to lock? I assume it must be a wiring issue?

At present I have the door trim off so I can have the door locked.
Any ideas would be appreciated...

Would I be best taking the car to an Auto Electrician to look at and see if they can fix the problem?

Cheers

You can check somethings if you have a multimeter. The actuators work on polarity battery voltage which means the locking module sends out 12volts negative earth to lock or sends out 12 volts positive earth to unlock the door.It is possible you have open circuit wires that go to the actuator in which case use a multimeter set to resistance or ohms to test the continuity of the wires.Need more help ,just ask.Cheers Kevman

Thanks mate for your reply.

I am a bit of an beginner with the mutlimeter. So as there are three holes; one being positive, negative and earth.
How do I know which one is which?
And what wires do I test to check? As in earth and positive, or earth and negative or positive and negative?

If there is a change in the voltage do I assume the wiring is fine, and if so what is the next step in getting the lock to function properly.

Cheers

I have a couple of actuators at work so I will test them to see how they work and get back to you and I have the manual on cd so if I get time I 'll suss it out and hopfully I should be able to give you a good chance of repairing it yourself.ok? :)

Mine did the same thing. I eventually found the problem in the loom plug between the door and the body. There was corrosion in one of the pins so I soldered them together. No problems since 6 years ago.

So it could simply be a basic wiring issue?
If this is what has happened to mine, would there be any voltage coming through?
