Something else to consider is that if the windows are stiff, and have broken once already, they will do it again if you dont rememdy the cause of the problem.

spraying silicon spray into the bailey (i think thats the right name) channels will let them slide a lot more freely.

True dat.

Seeing as though it's only done 150k, and the rear windows would've barely been used, I reckon something's dried up inside the guts.

On the topic, my xr8 front passenger window is a little screwy too. You have to push it towards the back of the car when it's about 90% the way up. I think I saw this same prob in a previous topic though.

phongus - gotta remember that the centre are high tensile steel, they will blunt even good quality drill bits very quickly. I think the advice to me was if i really do need to drill them, go very slowly, might get away with it.

I used cheap drill bits and I've replaced all my window regulators with bolts on both my EA and EL...the drill bit cost me a whopping 5 bucks from the Thomastown flee market lol. surprisingly it still drills...

phong =P~

had yours been changed before and replaced with normal rivets? or did ford get lazy with the ELs and put normal rivets in?

i ended up blunting about 4 bits and snapped 2 smaller ones i was trying to get pilot holes with. Was a right royal pain in the a***!!

and benj, read the power window maintainence thread thats a sticky at the top of the interior forum, it describes what i said about cleaning the channels in a bit more detail, and this should fix your XRs windows too.

A hammer and punch, and a lot of patience and hard work will get the centre out

you get what is called a roofing punch. Its a big long thing with a long tapered point. after stuffing around a lot I realised I had this punch and a couple of firm taps and the rivet pins pop right out then it is a simple matter to drill them out. I did a few yesterday as i have finally started my fairmont body swap. This is also useful for the lock actuators when they stuff up.

On the matter of power window stuff ups.....
I have found the plastic guides on the ends where the cables go into the motor drum have become brittle and snapped this all jams up into the drum and the thing is useless. I can't believe they weren't made of a stronger nylon which would last forever. someone had a sticky about swapping for the toyota motors and I am very interested in trying it.
