Hi all,

Anyone know how to remove the hella high mount stop light holder from the parcel shelf in the EF/EL sedans...I know there are 2 clips that you can get easy access to from the boot...but even with the clips released she doesnt seem to want to budge ... any clue as to why ?

Reason for replacing is the EF/EL XRs came with the holder but not the reflector inside or globe..however all the wirings there.

Now having an aftermarket wing that unlike the factory EF XR one doesnt contain a high mounted stop/tail light - I have to install one to comply with current ADR requirements...cheers

yeh some will Ive heard but the majority wont due to the XRs rolling off the factroy with an internal high mount stop light mounted in the rear wing..so bit pointless having one directly behind te wing on the shelf as it wouldnt be visible to the majority of vehicles behind you.

That id say was a picky inspector and scotsman im pretty sure there ADR in place and I will hunt it down im pretty sure it rule no. 60 - that implies their must be a 'visible' high mounted stop/tail light therefore if the wing obscures other road users from seeing this light source clearly then it is in breach of that adr

Big Kev, it should just come out once the clips are undone...im sure that's how i got mine out. have you removed the wiring from the casing? the wires may be holding it back somehow.

yeah...another words you have 4 rear lights in total...but since one is obstructed it kind of puts it down to 3 lights...should be safe

Huh oh ok I get you..nah..the idea is for a vehicle post 1983 to meet the current ADR standards must have two rear facing stop tail lights (must be a certain distance from the ground plane and certain distance from the window line) and a centre 'high' mounted stop/tail light...(also has restrictions or where it can/cannot be placed).

The idea is that certain ford models were released with no boot lid spoiler or a low boot lid spoiler (that didnt contain a light - as the spoiler was short enough in height that the parcel shelf light was still clearly visible) - so they came factory with the high mount parcel shelf position stop tail light to comply with the ADR ruling.

For the Xrs etc that came from factory with the boot lid spoiler the parcel shelf light was removed...i dont know why some have both??? dont know how that came up...I suppose theres no issue really having both ...as the law only requires u to have at least one high mounted stop tail light....YOU MUST have at least 1 high and two lower stop lights...to pass a road worthy
