Hi all,
I was going to replace the hideous half digital half analogue cluster in my LTD with a newer type from an EF. But i then got to reading that its a s**t load of hassle. So im going to put in an ED cluster.

Now... is there any difference between the 6cyl/8cyl clusters, ie different plugs gauges etc?

And what are the pro's and con's of a fully analogue ED cluster over the half digital ones in the LTD's?

Is it just a straight swap or do i have to put other things in to make the gauges work.

This is not a plug and play operation. It will require you to rewire your cluster plugs, as the pinouts are completely different.

There is a doco in the tech doc section re upgrading your instrument cluster. You will need to reverse engineer the doco, but the pinouts are there. People usually install your cluster, not remove it.

Oh, and yes, you need a V8 specific cluster, or the tacho will not work. It may be possible to fit the tacho motor out of your existing dash into the 6 guage one.

Out of interest, I have installed the NF Fairlane cluster in to my EB1 Ghia. Check my build thread for more info.

Sure lol, i have a spare Digital V8 one here. only problem is it will cost you/me an arm and a leg to post it your way/my way.

If you are really keen, let me know how much it is to post it here and i'll get a price to post it there.

Im also interested in this as I prefer the analog speedo and want to have the oil pressure guage.
Did a search but most people asking whats needed to go from sports to digital cluster instead of other way round.
Looking to put a EA sports cluster in EB1 with digital cluster.

It is doable, same wiring work involved, just adapting it to go the other way.

Lots of re wiring, so as long as you are comfortable with that, go for it.

Oh, and you will need a cluster to match your engine. V8 to V8 and 6 to 6

Now im pretty sure the tacho will work the same for both 8s and 6s, they should both be the same.

You need a V8 specific tacho for a V8

There is no different part number for EF/L cluster for 6 vs 8.
The tacho info comes from the ECU on the data line I beleive.

Correct.

EA-ED need specific clusters depending on the engine.

EF-EL work with either.
