Disconnect the battery and leave it for 1 minute from memory, i usually give it a few minutes just to be safe, that's all you need to do.

Nope, just disconnect your battery and you'll be fine, i've done quite a few.

I'm actually removing mine today to replace the cruise switches, that's all i'll be doing.

I'd be more worried about smacking yourself in the face with the steering wheel while trying to pull it off!

Its true, a mate of mine use to work at Coffey Ford, he changed heaps of them without disconnecting the battery or pulling the fuse!
But there is always that one time.......

yeah as mad max says there is always that one time when BOOOOOOOOM in ya face and i have blown these up for fun and on in a 60L drum sent the drum bout ten feet in the air . so yes disconect the negitive terminal wait 1 to 2 mins undo the screws securing the bag to the wheel undo the bolt holding the steering wheels and leave a few threads so as when you bang and pull the wheel when it finally lets go it wont knock ya out

Just pull the fuse on it.. if you disconnect the battery it resets your ecu and makes the car idle like s**t for a few days.
