I believe that earlier cars, (pre EB) didn't have the the programming for handling the change to 2000.
I could be wrong, but a mate with an EA goes from 1999 to 1970 if you try to go to 1999 to 2000.

yeah no s**t....."yes,...we'll make the date go back 18 years so that we can travel in time" or maybe they didnt expect the car to last that long....i just checked mine a couple of hours ago...the years set on 1977...if you put it on 1976 youll find youll have the date as 14th August, but the day will be Tuesday instead of Wednesday

anyone know how far the EF/EL ones go?

1/1/1970 is a common start date for computers. Especially those running some form of Unix, it's called the 'epoch', and time is kept as the number of seconds sicne then. So Unix system will have their Y2K, in 2038 when they run out of numbers.*

*useless trivia

half of a 32-bit number = 2147483648.

Here's much more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_epoch
