Hey, I'd like a basic rundown of how the Smartlock system (specifically EB-EL) works, as I am contemplating trying to adapt it to an XF. I'm also just interested out of curiosity. Any thoughts or infor would be appreiciated.

Hey Gab

Matti put together a top-s**t document on our good buddy, smartlock. Can be found here:

http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=26

A good rundown of how it works, components, modifying etc

That's great, just the info I was looking for, looks like putting it in the XF is not a goer.

Gab.

If your only wanting the ECU, not smartlock then its still a go. Just go to your local ford electronics shop (at a good ford dealer) and they can sell you a smartlock-bypass for $300-$350. 3 wires, disables smartlock. Doesnt need the smartlock modules.

Thank's Nigel, Smartlock itself was what I was after. I know about the bypass, and I'll probably install that when I get an EF motor.

f**k thats KEEN I thought about it as MY EB is 03/92 Build & smart lock wasnt avalible till 08/92 but to install it would have being a HEAD f**k of a job as I liked having smart lock on the EF but a good aftermarket car secruity system can do the same as smart lock.
