Hi guys.

I un-plugged my phone charger from my cig lighter today and the radio went off. Turned the radio back on, thinking nothing of it and then noticed the smoke lighter was no longer working.

Turned the car off and the radio was still on! Got out of the car and the lights, which normally dim and then go off, stayed on and just blinked off, like a normal light switch...

Have played with the radio some more, and it doesnt turn on when the car is turned on like it normally did, and when I have to manually turn it on it won't go off...

Anyone know whats going on?

Thanks!

Sounds like the BEM is playing funny buggers, but I don't know a thing about it..

Smokings bad for you, he he...

But seriously, check the acc. relay.. sounds like it might have died. And if not that, then the BEM.

Cheers

same place as the fuses.. the square looking things... one will say ACC relay or something next to it.. unplug it, and plug another one into it, and see if it helps...
good luck

Cheers

i can tell you for a fact that if it is an ef/el that you need to unplug the bem/bcm which is under the dash on the drivers side near the centre console, to get to it you need to take out the surround that goes around the instrument cluster and radio, if this doesn't work you need to buy a new one, which needs to be proggramed to your car before the car will start

Possible BEM fault. See if you can swap it with a fellow EL driver's BEM.

Just a couple of things - could you post your results back to this thread ??
Do these before trying to chase a BEM, if you can.

1. Does your Cigarette lighter work okay now, i.e. 12v when ign s/w turned to ACC ??
2. If not, with the radio turned on and ign on, pull the RAD CIG LTR fuse - does the radio stay powered up when ign is turned off?? Does it do the same with the fuse inserted?? or does it now turn off with ign s/w??

STAFF ANS: 1. No 2. yes, yes,no If your answers match, there is no RAD CIG LTR power.

The reason I ask these things is that the radio receives 3 sources of power:
1. From parkers (front face lighting) - is this working okay ??
2. From radio/cig lighter fuse
3. From CRT LP (courtesy lights) fuse

The radio seems to be acting like it is only receiving CRT LP power - this means it runs without ign on, and turns off when ign is on - just like the courtesy lights do.
It may be possible that there is a problem with the radio itself and might affect BEM operation.
You can test this theory out by unplugging the plugs to the radio, and seeing if the cigarette lighter returns to normal (if not already), and the courtesy lights fade normally again.
So it may be radio, BEM or not getting power from radio/cig lighter line.
