I am thinking about putting my ute on gas and having a large tank in the back.

The engine is stock with low mileage.

Are there any issues with the AUIIIXR8 on gas?

No issues but allow about $4500 pre-rebate for the installation. From what I understand, you will need an injected system for this particular engine.

Regards,
Dave

i bought an au3 XR8 ute about a month or so ago, runs great on petrol and LPG, its a impco mixer ring setup. and costs about 1/3 of the price my AU3 XR6 ute cost per week to run, cheaper to drive my V8 than my Girlfriends astra :)

my tank is next to my petrol one, running the same way so it doesnt look pregnant from behind, kind of subtle.

If you have a mixer ring setup, you don't have an IMPCO system...

I have an impco 425 mixer and model L converter, is there another setup like that? i thought injected systems have no mixer

Correct, but a mixer RING system is different again.

You have an air-valve type system.

I saw the LPG guy today, should be installed in about 4 weeks. SVI system costing $4,400, rebate is $1750 (which reduces to $1500 on 1st July).

I am getting a big tank put in the back of the ute

it does feel a bit restrictive i think, feels a bit empty in power from about 4000rpm to redline. i bought the car like it is so i dont really know much about the setup, learning as i go

i put a model L impco on, same as was already on there, i think my coils or leads mabey shot as it builds revs slow on gas and on petrol i think it misses from idle to about 2000rpm, like a flat spot.

once i put the new gear on it should be alot better, but otherwise it runs really good

i got my converter real cheap, was cheaper to put a new one on than buy a service kit for my other one, so ive got another L that needs cleaning and il keep it as spare.

i havnt looked to much into us ebay as im not sure what leads will fit my car, i dont want to have to pull them apart and stuff. il have a look at coils though. when i get some money

im getting my car dyno tuned on gas for $100 to get the mixtures right, im only getting 270-300 from 58L. so it should run alot better after that

well i had my gas tuned yesterday and drives so much better i can hardly tell the difference between petrol and gas, power curves look good to i was told, Car make 137RWKW on petrol and 136RWKW on LPG, bit down for a V8 but my AU XR6 had 139RWKW with all the exhaust and intake but the 8 is stock auto

Quite inpressed with the tuning!

Nice, how much did it set you back? Are there any risks when pushing LPG, like more chance of backfires etc?

took it to Auto Gas connection in Carrum downs, dont think the car was tuned at all while on gas but is so much better to drive now. Dyno tune is $120 and they needed it for about an hour and a half.

He said the car will be the same reliability as petrol if its well maintained, good quality leads, propper plugs and gaps etc and will have 0 problems in the future
