Ive used shell plenty of times in Melbourne and never had any issues. Is this just a recent one off problem or is it more widespread?

Shell will not repair anything on your car,
You have to get it fixed by a gas mechanic then send them a claim and hope they will pay you back!
That's why i havent gotten mine fixed yet!
A guy at my wife's work has a bill of about $1000 so I am waiting to see how he goes with them.

A couple of facts about LPG and shell

LPG is only available from supagas or supergas
I say this because petrol station's no longer sell LPG they sell "auto mix" (a mixture of propane and butane)

Either good or bad shell is the only one to admit that and they sell a propane/Butane mix

Propane is good you get less in you tank it goes longer and you car runs better and burns clean

Butane is only good for lighters and junkies and is cheep and dirty to burn

So to keep cost down or make more profit they mix the 2 gases

As quoted in ricks Fairmont wagons post "higher-than-normal residue levels"
What this is talking about is paraffin wax they put in with the gas to help lubricate the gas system
But sometimes it can block you converter if it is not installed properly

Converters should be mounted upright with the gas outlet at the bottom of the converter (so any wax gets sucked through to the motor)
And the converter should be below the top of the highest water gallery in the motor to prevent vapour lock and the converter freezing)

just one other thing look where the taxi's fill up, often they have propane on tap there and that is why they go there it is normaly about 2c/5c more per litre aswell you car will run better on 100% propane

Well I was home sick today so had to fix the car.

I pulled out the BRC converter and fitted the OMVL in its place. Ran awesome... started from cold and all..... except for one major issue.
Bloody coolant leaks.
I swapped it for yet another one that's a bit rough. Runs better than the BRC but it is a bit stuffed at higher revs.
I will have to rebuild the good one with some silicon goop.

I also changed the thermostat (again) as the car took forever to warm up and it's freezing at the moment.

I need to make some mounting adjustments and swap to the lower outlet it seems from the advice from the previous post.

That is crap shell should know where the contaminated gas is!!!

instead they sell the s**t because it is cheaper to repair 1 or 2 peoples cars who complained about the gas because the average Joe would just go to some were and have it fixed so it is not shells problem

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

make the bastards replace the whole system ( tank and all )as we don’t know what it is contaminated with and by your profile pick your car is friggin sweet and is worth doing rite make them pay

If they drain the gas tank who is to say it wont remain contaminated and in some crap at the bottom of the tank

I filled up in hoppers crossing last Friday only to find my car sounding like it was running on 2 cylinders, I called shell and was confirmed it was there LPG they have sent me a claim form for the damage. I have the direct injection system in my car so I hope there is not allot of damage.
I will keep you posted on what’s happening.
