On a half decent LPG system LPG consumption is approx 30% more than petrol consumption. So for LPG to be dropped in favour of petrol the LPG price has to be greater than 70% of the cost of petrol.

So with petrol being $1.30/L, LPG has to be $0.91/L or greater for most people to piss it off and run straight petrol.

Remember that's only the average case. BTU's, other text book figures and all the design engineering calculations in the world are nice, but real world figures don't lie.

You also have to factor in the performance differences too!

Only with the old school outside-in mixer ring setups. People can harp on about different compression requirements all they want but no matter what they say, you aint going to make real power sucking through a straw. The last Dyno day proved that too. All the duel fuel runners were down at least 30kw on their petrol only counterparts.

Of course that doesn't take into consideration the initial outlay of paying for the conversion in the first place. The reason people convert to lpg is to save money not break even on the equivalent cost of petrol.

I reckon I use a lot more than 30%

How many kms do you cover in a year as that is the ultimate decding factor.

Also what system are you running to be returning such crap economy over petrol? I'm thinking a poorly tuned outside in mixer setup at the best, or an old impco setup at the worst.

Who cares that were paying cheaper than petrol prices as its not the point................

The point is 80% of lpg is naturally occuring and lpg was under 0.40 cent before lpg rebate and went nearly 0.15 cent's more when lpg scheme came in. It is not right plain and simple as every rebate the government do they get a great return on investment.

Your the suckers paying for petrol and come here and say stop complaining when in fact i have good grounds to complain. The point here is just becuz it's cheaper dosent mean its ok or have the attitude and say "oh it's okay as it's cheaper"

Im not the typical Aussie that sit's back and complain's and dosent do nothing about it and rather be proavtive and, let ppl know that is really going on and that it's not as green on the other side.

All im trying to saying this purely a cash grab and putting on a front so ppl convert then get ripped off, so stop the whole thing and go back to how it used to be.................

It's all a matter of economics, for some it would be worth swapping to LPG, for others it wouldn't be worth it.

For me, it's worth it on my larger engined car's but not on my mighty boy.

Cheers

Two Questions.

Who do we petition about the tax?
Who do we approach/petition about the massive pump price differences across the country?

BA Egas, Outside in mixer ring, same setup that dual fuel falcons have been running since the EF. Not the most efficient way to go about things, need I say more.

tickford_6, its not so much a tax but a rollback of the lpg subsidy. Jo blogs see's a price increase and instantly thinks TAX.
Its a federal issue which was brought in when howard was in power. As for the price variances across the country, we are being taken for a ride and a half by who ever the hell is riding us.
