A THREE-MAN Confederation of Australian Motorsport panel of race stewards took four hours to decide in Kelly's favour.

Kelly won the V8 title for the first time in controversial circumstances at Phillip Island yesterday after a tangle with Lowndes early in the final race when they were tied on points.

Race officials had ruled Kelly responsible for a third-lap tangle which resulted in Lowndes suffering extensive steering damage.

The Commodore driver was given a drive-through penalty during the race and recovered to finish 18th, while Lowndes struggled and ultimately placed 29th.

A race-stewards hearing immediately after the event decided Kelly's pit lane penalty was sufficient, but Lowndes' team protested, saying it was too lenient as the incident effectively ended their driver's title hopes.

Following today's hearing, chief steward Steve Chopping said that, after considering all the facts, the penalty imposed on Kelly during the race was deemed appropriate and no further action was necessary.

dirty holden drivers, tander and skaife especially should be ashamed for being the usual wank jobs they are.

so he should retain the title too!!! Go Kelly and HRT!!!

Well this little black duck wont be watching or spending any of my hard earned coin on there s**t seris any more. the whole thing is a C**k of s**t they stole points away from them for nothing than having a go at the d**k heads running the show. Surfers should not be a round its a s**t track to try and pass or have a go. they screw what was good into crap. just hope ford now get behind them and flight it all the way. the little c&&^^* ker said that lowndes mved across on him ERRRR how could that be when you look at the move and he clearly cleans him up little terd......
