Another thumbs down on the colour scheme from me. I use a colour corrected monitor (for my photography), and the white's are like a washing powder commercial - whiter than white.

And I'm sure with wide screen monitors being the 'norm' these days. Restricting content width is IMO silly. Just because everyone else does it on Web 2.0 sites doesn't make it right. Again, I'm no fan of web 2.0 sites in general.

Another thumbs down, looks too much like FordForums. It was nice to be able to instantly and unmistakeably tell the two apart (as I'm a contributor to both).

And in the efforts of being constructive. I am liking the extra speed of the site. quick reply missing will take some adjusting, but it's less a PITA than the colour scheme.

I haven't experience any of the problems others have mentioned. But then again, this is my first new post.

OK, opinion is heading south in a big way! a few problems I am encountering:-

* Watched topics is not updating when I post in either a new topic or add to an old thread, I can only assume that it's not updating at all even if others are posting???

* I just updated the WSID muscle car cruise for tommorow and found something very disturbing....the flyer which is a html code from photobucket doesn't appear. I corrected that by editing the first post and redoing the flyer as an img code. BIG problem is my build thread has a lot of pics and now none of them are displaying because they are all posted in html, i'll be buggered if i'm gunna go back through 18 odd paged of the thread and repost all of the images........can anything be done about this???

The watched/subscribed topics bug has been fixed. They wont disappear any more.

The bbcode tags give us greater control over any external linking that is performed. It stops people from writing malicious HTML code and stealing your credit card details. Direct HTML posting is frowned upon these days, especially when alternatives exist.

If there are large amounts of img tags that need to be changed, you can copy and paste your post source into notepad and use the search/replace function to change them. Unfortunately this is a side effect of increased security.

it certainly has that feel.

however.. it should be significantly faster, especially on a board this size.
for me i'm finding it very snappy.

Yep, 3.0.4 :)

You're not the only one... watched topics is totally whacky at the moment. I have subscribed to threads since the change over and they don't stay subscribed. For example, I subscribed to this one, got one reply and then it disappeared off my watch list. So it seems you are subscribed until you view or reply to the thread then you have to subscribe again. If that is standard PHPBB3 behaviour, it sucks....

Cheers
RD

Oh, and further to the above - I have "Notify me upon replies by default:" set to "Yes" and it doesn't work....

Yarr, all fixed :P

Seriously, give back the Quick Reply box.

IMO thats a massive step backwards to remove it..... If your defense is saying it will save you a few seconds load time (on what, 56k?), what about the time you're waiting for the next page to load just so you can reply?

Whites a touch over the top too, as mentioned a different shade would be tops.

Also, go fullscreen.

The average user will view 80 posts and make 1 reply. So you save half a second 80 times, and lose 2 seconds once. That's more than 30 seconds saved for every post you make.

If you want a slower connection then load up some spyware or call your ISP and asked to be capped. Fordmods is significantly faster now!!

As for full screen, by limiting the screen width we're able to perform more accurate dynamic HTML which will become evident as further changes are made to the site. This is only the beginning.

We're now displaying MORE information per square inch than previously, so while we're not using the full width, we are getting more information on your page - I don't see any problem with that!

Convenience of Quick reply > *possible* saved time IMO. I honestly cant tell if its faster or slower than before with a 1500kbs connection.

As mentioned somewhere along the line, can it at least be optional?

I also read that about displaying more s**t per square inch in the other thread, but I've got like 2 inches of blank white space either side of the screen.

Thanks waggin,

Guess I'll just have to retire my old build thread and start fresh, would be easier than trying to redo all of those pics in the thread eh! :?

Well, there's seat of the pants and then there are the figures from the Quarter Mile and/or Dyno. The "convenience" of quick reply is seat of your pants, the figures I'm telling you have been measured, and are real. Trust me - I'm saving you time at the end of the day, the bill is in the mail :)

I have a 24" widescreen monitor, so I have about 4" of white space each side myself. What matters is that ~950px of space we used in the middle of the screen to display information is more organised and efficient than before. Less space is wasted, and hence you end up with a cleaner and easier to read and use web page. It gives an asthetic improvement along with technical benefits that will be seen in the near future. What matters is that you can read the information that other people post, and you can contribute information for other people to read. Whether that takes 300px wide, or 1000000px wide doesnt matter.

Thanks for the fixes to watched topics, seems to be working better now :)

Just one other thing... What does new posts refer to - *All* new posts or "all new posts aside from the ones you have replied in". Why I ask is I just updated my thread twice in the last hour & half and it is not showing in New Posts.

Cheers
RD
