I believe it is a list of all posts that were created since your last visit, up until the current moment. Not sure if that theory works with the scenario you stated. Link me up to your posts if it doesnt make sense and I'll look into it. There shouldn't be any bugs in this area though.

Okay, I'll believe you're saving time due to less s**t to load, but on what speed connection did you do you calc's?

Also is it possible to have the quick reply optional or not?

I dont mind the white so much really, and I can live with the white strips on the side, but the quick reply box is really bugging me.
Other than that I think the site looks more professional and modern, and will probably prove itself a very worthwhile update in the near future once everyone gets used to it and the bugs ironed out.

Thanks Waggin

The thread thats not appearing for me is this one:

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=65695&start=180

I made two replies, one at 7:27pm and one at 8:19pm but neither are appearing in New Posts. I have attached a screenie of what I just saw when clicking New Posts. Note, that there is another post by me in my Wanted thread that "does" appear in New Posts...

Cheers
RD

Well, there's seat of the pants and then there are the figures from the Quarter Mile and/or Dyno. The "convenience" of quick reply is seat of your pants, the figures I'm telling you have been measured, and are real. Trust me - I'm saving you time at the end of the day, the bill is in the mail :)

I have a 24" widescreen monitor, so I have about 4" of white space each side myself. What matters is that ~950px of space we used in the middle of the screen to display information is more organised and efficient than before. Less space is wasted, and hence you end up with a cleaner and easier to read and use web page. It gives an asthetic improvement along with technical benefits that will be seen in the near future. What matters is that you can read the information that other people post, and you can contribute information for other people to read. Whether that takes 300px wide, or 1000000px wide doesnt matter.[/quote]

waggin u said 30 secs per 80 posts..

thats f**k all what over 20 mins? who will actually notice that small increase in time
as i said fordmods is slower than before
the only time is was quicker was in teh fm2 after the crash!

ok so u have it more organised but no way is it more aesthetic
as when some one posts a too large pic without realising it will make that pst wider than rest and looks s**t

for a more modern feel a full width forum is needed,

No, this is what I said:
Quote:
The average user will view 80 posts and make 1 reply. So you save half a second 80 times, and lose 2 seconds once. That's more than 30 seconds saved for every post you make.

You save 30 seconds for EVERY post. Not 30 seconds per 80 posts. So as you slowly make your way back to 13,000 posts, we will save you 4.5 days by not having a quick reply box.

Regarding images that are too wide - this issue occured on the old version of fordmods, but in a different way - causing users to scroll. The issue of wide images will be overcome shortly by other means to ensure that no alignments are screwed up.

It's your opinion if think that wide is more modern and the overall design isn't to your taste. We are moving in a new direction, and I get the feeling that most are just opposed to change on a whole.

Well it would take 5.5-6.5 seconds with the quick reply box. Possibly longer if your machine is rendering the pages slowly.

It's probably because this is the only forum you use that doesn't use a free downloaded template. Also, none of our other applications would work without custom styling. Sure, we could go and install 20 free templates from the interweb and remove the gallery, dyno/quarter mile registry, events, doco's, etc. but that certainly would be a backward move.

If you think the styling is backward, thats your opinion.

As i've said in other posts, these changes are making way for bigger and better things to come. Altering our styling to suit your personal taste would be prohibitive for our future developments - I dont think Fordmods should have to suffer because of your personal styling tastes. Please agree to disagree for now and reserve your judgements for future changes.

Well my point is that however long it takes now, it would take 0.5 seconds longer with the quick reply. What part of that dont you understand?!
