6x Seagate Cheetah 15.5K 300GB SAS disks - $400ea. Only had 6 months use.

They're good for 100-125MB/sec sustained and 3.5ms avg seek - they're basically the 2nd quickest SAS disk on the market.

forgive me on not knowing the technical terms...

These would have to be solid state?

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim,

No SAS disks are Serial Attached SCSI drives - SAS drives still use platters and have internal moving mechanical components - this was the difference in SSDs (Solid State Disk) which utilise flash memory similiar to the USB Thumb drives etc - these would have been installed in a Server likely in a RAID array - awesome set of drives if you plan to run em in a server or to speed up disk throughput on your workstation if youre pretty serious...

Note: Im pretty sure though if you do wish to purchase one of these killer drives you would need to ensure your hardware is compatible - most new servers now come with SAS/SAS RAID controllers builtin - otherwise you would need to look at getting one.

So if serious I/O performance is what you want out of your desktop/server then these are the go

Cheers
Kev

I think it may have something to do with his rator sata raid array being better.

Hi,

They're not solid state - I'd be worried about a 15000rpm solid state drive ;)

They are indeed 3.5". They are out of a Dell MD1000, ex-display system. I'm keeping 4 for myself. Theyre twice as fast as the Raptors ;)

6 drives, 6 free ports on my RAID card. Shame they're so expensive.
