The thread stays.

If his Sapphire is in better nick than a clapped out EF Fairmont...then I tihnk I know what car I'd start my mods on.

If no-one has anything constructive to offer, stay out of it.

Sorry mate, I thought I did offer something constructive? I said he had a good car to start off with being a factory manual. I also suggested he convert his car to a XR front rather than get rid of it for a XR6, and that its cheap to buy the parts to make it fairmont spec.

Ill stay out of it now.

Not really just trying to help you by putting the information out.

I am willing to bet someone would swap a standard Fairmont for a 5 speed Gli too... Not sure about one with over two million K's on it mind you...

But, uhm... Honestly... In the Fordmods tradition, how about doing something with the bloody car?

This car is a good base for something. Like XR-Lane said, keep it and start modifying it. You can get a Fairmont electric windows and digital climate control and do the conversion... You can get a Fairmont bonnet, lights and bumper and do the conversion. Or you could get an XR front end and do the conversion. You could then find a Tickford engine, and (you guessed it) do the conversion.

You'd then have a 5 speed Ford Saphire XR6 Mont Lane Fiary with a Tricky Donkity Donk.

Which is a million times better than whatever heap of junk anyone is going to give you for your current heap of junk poverty pack with extras...

Just out of interest - Can anyone really tell me what a Saphire is? My car was a Futura, so I learnt what one of those was (very happy it had some wiring in the cabin as factory for the Fairmont conversion) but I've seen Saphires once or twice - just never found what the "flash" bits are over a Futura?

Jeeez mate. When I (and a lot of other people) joined this FordMods site I (we) joined for various reasons. My reason was I didn't know how to set the clock on my new Fairmont EF I had bought a couple of days ago. Since then I've blown up, crashed, repaired, swapped seats, dash, heater box, complete interior, auto's for manuals, changed engines, brakes, radiators, bonnets, front ends, lights, wheels, diffs, steering, doors, windows.......

What I am saying in my long winded, yet somewhat interesting, style is that when I joined this site a few years ago I knew nothing about cars - hadn't even changed a brake pad before.

I am now very proud of my efforts. I'm not so proud of the car as such, but all the little bits on the car. I mean - I've pulled apart everything on the damn car. Everything, just about. You name it, everything.

It has all been done on a budget of about $50 a week, by a guy who knew nothing.

FORDMODS.
It's all in the name.

TUA VS CAMERON is on. I want to watch it. I've got to go to the pub. And I don't drink. Awkward.

I'll swap you my ED gli for it.

Seriously, are you even capable of brushing your own teeth? You can't even state even the vaguest information.

you might get a well used fairmont for yours since its a manual, id recommend doing a conversion like others have mentioned. you can pick up a full ghia trim (door trim, leather seats etc) for a half decent price if you look around, seen some go on ebay and various classifieds for between $250-$500 then you can do the climate control and power windows too and your pretty much there. and youd still have a manual :) could also consider a cam or budget turbo set up too which could be fun, seen kits going for under a grand :D
id say with a trim, windows, climate control and some guts behind the manual and youd be pimpin it harder than alot of the xr's or fairmonts kickin round.. and you'd probably get a few quid for it when you decide to get that holden youve been dreaming of :P
what are the mods that you cant see out of curiosity?
