The aluminium bushes are for mounting the factory handle direct to the shifter. You can remove the rubber mount if you want the direct feel (but will also give more in-cabin noise) just like the tri-ax handle, but at factory length ;)

Hey guys,

Had my shifter installed at BPT today, with the BPT shortened handle.

After a decent drive, I found that although it was more precise, reasonable force was still required to change gears, particularly Neutral to 1st.

Also a reasonable amount of transmission noise (slight rattle & vibration) in the cabin, nothing too severe though.

The throw between gears also felt a bit TOO short for my liking (especially 1st to 2nd) ...so, I decided to do something about it.

Bearing in mind that the Physical law of Moments dictates that you can gain more leverage strength with a LONGER fulcrum (e.g. you have to use a longer bar to lever a heavy boulder off a cliff as in Coyote vs Roadrunner, Hehe  ), ...I decided to revert back to my stock handle.

Pics & descriptions as follows...

The mysterious Aluminium spacers & 2 longer bolts I pulled off the BPT install:
Image

These spacers are actually for fitting into the stock (or BPT) handle as shown:
Image

As some of you were interested in the difference in height between stock & BPT handles ...stock on left, BPT on right:
Image

The BPT install with short handle, note how the spacers have been used with the longer bolts:
Image

BPT install again, note that the stock rubber mount hasn't been used:
Image

My re-install of the stock handle, but modifying and reusing the stock rubber boot, along with the spacers & the longer BPT bolts. NOTE ...you have to pop out the 2 stock metal bolt-hole guides & remove / cut out the rubber hole grommets in the stock handle before you can use the spacers!
Image

Other side of my stock handle re-install, so you can see I've used the FULL stock rubber mount, ...all done up nice & tight:
Image

The finished job, stock handle with full rubber boot & spacers, on Steeda shifter:
Image

Took the EL for a 'try out' drive, ...and what a difference!

Easily less effort to move through the gears now (much smoother), but still with a shorter throw & precise feel ...along with bugger-all cabin noise & stick vibration! :P

I'm now very happy with it overall, feels much better & quicker than stock.

Sorry about the long post everyone, ...but I thought some of this would be of interest to you guys.

Before I get pulled up on these points:

You CAN'T just bolt up the stock handle & rubber mount to the shifter, because the stock handle bolts are not long enough to go through the 2 rubber surfaces AND the handle into the shifter thread.

Plus the 2 metal hole inserts will restrict how tight you can do everything up.

You could just cut away the outer portion of the rubber mount, pop out the metal inserts, use the spacers & bolt it all up with just the single portion of rubber mount sandwiched between the handle & shifter ...though I doubt that this will be as effective against noise & vibration as using the WHOLE rubber mount.

Excellent posts there markr154.
Obviously the BPT handle doesnt look that much shorter than the stock ones. Probably not worth getting in my opinion.
Cheers

Do you still have your BPT handle, or did you give it back to them there and then?

I still have it ...do you want it?

Brand spankers ...was only on the car for 1 drive!

You can have it for $70 versus new for $85 ...saves ya on fuel money anyways.

Let me know.

Had the car out all day today ...no probs at all, shifts like a dream.

Stock handle is better for these shifters IMO ...but everyone's different.

if i manage to squeeze some rubber, not so much the original rubber mount, but something to insulate it, i would rather stick with the Tri-Ax... im rapt with the length, i just need to reduce the vibrations...
