Spool rods. ACL used to do forgies, but no longer. Check out Spool they can advise on pistons or maybe look at probe. find out what size overbore you want first though.

I would suggest a 30cc dish top, I assume you are looking at boosting.

Spool Rods, CP Pistons are a common combo

Spool sells the rods and pistons together but the pistons need machining to suit earlier models.

Ill likely go that way when I get around to the motor.

Spool and C.P pistons...
We sent a std piston to the States for them to custom make a piston for us..
The job # through Quantum which is A.U agents for C.P's is 97852 / with forging # XR6-20 Rev..
With .020 over pistons.. / Cam profile CP32..
The pin size for these rods needs to be .866 to fit the full floating rods..
This way the XR6T rods from B.A's fit an AU or E series motor..
Tmk Spool do this for you through Quantum ...
C.P piston are well known to seal and work well on forced induction engines..
They have gas port on second ring to help ring seal under boost...
This combination is a near bullet proof rotating assembly...
NEVER had any issues bedding C.P's rings in either...
Don't assemble rings with friction modified oil.. WD40 is what we use...

C.P's and Spool rods beside std piston, rods..

Lets forget cost for a moment. Lets concentrate on strength and weight for a few brief moments here. What rods are the absolute ducks guts in terms of strength. And then when weight comes into it, what rods would have the best strength to weight ratio's. Also what type of beam would be ideal for what is available on the market? H or I beam?

I'll throw my 2 bob's worth in...

I too, have spool rods and CP's..very happy with the combo. Motor just wants to rev(yeah lots of things make this happen) A lot reckon forgies are over kill for the street.....piffle. Can barely notice the rattle till they warm up (which takes fu(k all time) Main reason i got them is because i had intended to run NOS. I have since changed my mind on the engine destroying gas, instead i will just wind the boost up (currently 18psi )..

I got mine when the dollar was a bit average, so you should be able to do a bit better. Argo rods look deadset identical to the spool. Hard to justify the extra 4-500 buckaroos.

Cheers

Just for parts!!!

I just found from a website called pureperformancemotorsports.com (PPM) and they have forged rods, pistons, pins, rings, pin locks and rod bolts for $2200

Where ever i get the rods from, do i have to get the bearings from the same place? Or, say if i get them from PPM, can i go to acl for bearings???

Nathan
