Hi guys this may be a newby question i know but this is my first turbo car and it has been fine until the other day the missus was driving and she pulled out onto the highway and the Xr took off quick like it usually does and went through a few gears but im pretty sure in 2nd or third once the moptor hits 4000 rpm it hits a massive flat spot like it has no boost or no fuel!
i actually pulled the turbo off last weekend to replace the studs in the turbo mount flange and have since rechecked the tension on all the studs so i am pretty confident its not that again.
Any input would be greatly appreciated guys thanks

it seems to only do it in third Benny D, it takes off great from a standstill but once it hits 4000 in third just looses all power, dont know how old the coil packs are is there any way to safely test them at home without frying myself? going to check plugs today and disconnect the battery for a while to wipe the ECU see if that helps.

sounds like its hitting boost cut at 14 psi and pulling all timing. the vacume actuator on the turbo splits and wont open the wastegate. once the pcm seems 14 psi it does all it can to stop it. if thats what it really is be very careful, i have had 1 bend a rod like this and take a chunk out of the cylinder wall.

if conditions change & the ecu thinks something isnt right you may invoke torque reduction... which one many options it uses is through the electronic throttle body as it shuts it down !! but is is one of many things that it could be to

My BA xr6 turbo does the same 4000rpm flat spot. However mine is a 4sp auto and does it in I think 3rd. I have changed the intercooler tho, according to my boost gauge since fitting the cooler it's being running slightly higher boost (8psi) Is this normal? When it hits flat spot it drops to 4psi.

sorry for taking so long to post again guys but i fixed the problem and all it took was some WD40 yes i feel ashamed for overlooking it but it was the boost control solenoid was gummed up so a liberal soak of wd40 in the solenoid and the wastgate actuator and in an hour was good as new thanks for all the input guys
