Hey all, ive got what i believe to be a f**k snort stage 1 turbo here, wondering if i should get it rebuilt before i fit it to the car, it has a bit of play in the shaft. There is movement in the turbo and the exhaust turbine. Its f**k apparently.

Or just buy a garrett, I will spend give or take $500 on the turbo itself.

Ive got an intercooler and its piping, manifold, impco 425 mixer, manual boost gauge and all the other nessercary parts to get it running unreliably on petrol and reliably on lpg.
Im not going to use petrol for driving at all unless i absolutely have to.

Ive a standard engine and auto EL, ive had it supercharged before with a powerdyne, which was awesome. But i want it doing that on lpg.

I want 200-220rwkw's, i want fastest spooling turbo and most reliable one i can get, preferably secondhand (rebuilt or new/unwanted.mind change etc).

So what should i do, rebuilt the thing or aim for which kind of turbo?
Whats a really good value for money turbo that spools up quick?
I suspect an aim for 200killis is very easily obtainable on a 170,000km engine, 8 psi and lpg, intercooler and s**t ;P

how much play is in the shaft?
unless its a ball bearing turbo, there should be a bit of play, as they're just a plain bush bearing which runs on oil.

why dont you go to a turbo specialist and ask there opinion? get some actual figures on how much it'll cost for rebuild or new.

Haha i knew that would gather some interest, $900 to rebuild, not doing it ;)
Going secondhand but new Garrett, just dont know which one to get.
I want fast spool, 200kw's on lpg intercooled. Shouldn't be hard.

Anyone know which turbo would suit such an application, the internet has no answers!
I've read an amazing amount of doco's!

Why don't you look around on the net and see what other people have done! I'm sure there are plenty of answers if you look in the right places!

Yeah i've gone through an amazing amount of turbo builds, but i am after specific answers.
As i said, i was just stirring you up to get a response, sorry if that went too far ;)

I want something capable of 200rwkw's and will still spool up very quickly, as quick as reasonably possible, a model of garrett that will be suited to the size of the 4L.

I know there is a trade off between top end power and spool times, but i'd like to know which a / r's to go for.

Enjoy your weekends!

GT3540 which is also a standard xr6t turbo spools instantly apparently.
Difficult to find, i've been looking the hard way trying to work out trims and a/r's and balancing that between power and spool, as well as trying to remember all the other little bits.

The gt40 as fitted to ba-bf xr6 doesn't spool "immediately". They are cheap to buy from wrecks. Depending on future mods is what would govern turbo size. If ur happy not to go any more than 200rwkw then maybe a smaller turbo might be an option due to faster spool up time. If ur after exact a/r, etc, ring a garrett turbo supplier and ask for their opinion.
