hi guys

i pulled the front pipe off my turbo on my bf typhoon the other day and it has LOTS of endfloat in the shaft ( maybe 5mm).

what is a smart option for the turbo?

a) wait for it to fail?

b) purchase a replacement core off ebay?

c) send it away for a proper rebuild?

with 5mm of fore-aft play in the shaft, I'd be hoping it hasn't damaged the compressor wheel and the housing. I'd honestly be looking at upgrading the turbo and manifold.

when i brought my turbo it had end float and movement up and down side to side, the compressor fins touched the housing. so i rebuilt it myself, wasnt to hard considering its a floating bush.

if there is no damage to the compressor/exhaust housing id replace the core off ebay.

is the typhoon turbo bush or bb ??

sending it away could cost more than a replacement core. providing the housings are ok

yeah im sorta in favour of a core off ebay because i live a long way from any city and theyre an allright price. imm just not sure of the quality of the replacement cores off ebay. the fins dont hit on the housing and look like theyre in good nick so i kinda want to do it before it starts hitting and does more damage.

has any one used the cores off ebay or heard feedback on them?

option 1) Genuine garret from america

option 2) Hi-tech industries turbo core

Now is a good time to upgrade to a bigger turbo..
Check Precision's new line of turbo's??
I would go with larger comp wheel..
At least 62mm billet etc for well under what Garrett $$..
$1200 Ball bearing .. Under $1k sleeve..

who sells them in australia?

This is what after? with the t4 rear housing i think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Precisio ... ccessories

to fit this ill need a new manifold, waste gate, dump pipe and adaptors/mods to my intake, oil and coolant lines & tune? sounds like its getting pricey i think it would probably be more than the snort stage 4 kit. $5K with garrett t4 turbo and all manifolds, dump, waste gate, lines, intake pipe, filter, etc. would the precision turbo be better? maybe i could get the kit modified to suit this turbo? probably questions i should ask snort them selves. any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated though.

Would require a bigger exhaust wheel on healthy 4.0 engine..

Have you thought of EFR Borg warner turbo's ??
There wastegate etc is part of turbo design, inergrated ..
These are the new ducks nuts in Europe ..
Seem pricy BUT you DON'T have to pay for wastegate, BOV etc...
Ball Bearing and lightweight wheels for responsive spool..
http://www.full-race.com/store/turbos/borgwarner-efr/
I would be looking at the 70mm...
Or Ebay http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_fro ... bo&_sacat=
