Shiny new XR6 clutch is in, and gearbox is on the motor..

Image

Now I start pulling the motor and tranny out of my car.. ( clutch pedal and cable are already in.)

Then I just have to start working out how to make the wiring work.

This is the plug on the gearbox loom.
Image

I'm hoping that this ED plug fits the EL loom so that all I have to worry about is the temp sensor and neutral trick.

Got most of the work done towards pulling the old engine out too.

Image

The rocker cover from this motor is going on the new one.. two much polishing was involved not to.

Wanted to paint the engine bay in Shockwave blue if I have because that's the colour it will be once I've finished the front bar/side skirts/rearbar.

I can't seem to stop the damn power steering line from leaking, thinking it might be worth it just to replace the pressure line from the pump to the steering rack.. driving me nuts.

As stated they are just wear pads to stop the bell housing from wearing away. Flipping it over shouldn't hurt anything.

Have you painted up the heater pipe? It's looking a bit old compared to the rest of the engine, hope it's getting the same treatment as everything else!

Cheers

Yikes... fordmods is really not optimised for phone posting...

If it wasn't a 90's style table based layout and instead used Divs and CSS for layout, you could detect the resolution width of the viewer and change the layout completely to suit... (you can still do it with table layouts, it's just much less flexible.

Better yet, just hack in tappatalk support. :-)

lol. You would be kicking yourself down the track man! Hit it with some VHT gloss black high temp paint, then some VHT clear coat, and it should stand the test of time as well, as it will get bloody hot there under the exhaust/extractors.

Or if your like me & have 2 of a lot of parts, spend time preping up another one, and just swap it in at a later date. lol. :D

Yep, fordmods isn't too great on a phone, even a HTC Desire HD with it's huge screen.

Cheers

I have two spare engines and a complete spare El sedan. Will hopefully be on here tomorrow reporting how much better than an auto it is... I doubt it though... tons of little things like remote wiring coil, redoing extractor flanges computer wiring etc etc.

lol, just like me with the spares! It's always the little things man. Good luck with it, if you can get a mate to help with the install it will go so much quicker.

Cheers

OK... made some progress despite having to be "interviewed" by prospective school principles all morning.

Old engine is out. Fun doing it by yourself hey... (mates are all at work)

Old next to the new:

Now my goal this evening is to figure out how to wire this loom: (which doesn't appear to even have a plug on it to seperate it from the engine bay looms.)
Image

Onto this lovely ED manual loom plug.
Image

Could have sworn that there used to be a howto for wiring a manual into an auto loom in the recourses section, but all I see there now is the pedal box thing.. oh well, searching will find something no doubt.

anyway, worked hard, now have a craving for KFC to fulfill. :-)

Isn't there a plug on the engine bay harness that you just plug the manual loom into? If not, it's much easier doing the conversion on the EA to ED! I just plugged the manual gearbox loom into the connector on the firewall & away I went.

Cheers

I didn't see one, but youve got me hopeful now.

It wouldn't be that hard to bridge the neutral start switch and hook up the reverse lights, but I'd prefer factory plug if it is an option.

EF has a separate (plug in loom) same as EA to ED.
EL has no plug to the gear box....
If I remember correctly.....

I think you are correct as my EL has no plug sadly.

No matter, I'll look on my EAII motor and if it has the same plug and if so, I'll abscond with it, if not I'll just have to get some blade terminals and go at it that way... don't want to cut the plug off.

I found this here which saves me reverse engineering it:

Quote:
Input term 30: transmission position SW gets a 6.8k resistor between it and term 46: Sensor Earth
and
Input term 42: A/T Oil Temp sensor gets a 1.2K resistor between it and term 46: sensor Earth.

I think I might as well put the camber kit I bought in while the engine is out too.

Do you know what the current camber and castor angles are?

Nope, which is why I'd send it to the other end of this street for an alignment. The Wheel align guys are the ones who told me I needed a kit as I've maxed it. ( car is pretty low)
