My overboosting problem was caused by a 27psi wastegate spring. Once I installed a 10psi spring all was sweet. I think this problem is probably more related to the position of the wastegate pipe into the collector. Just my opinion.

Where you guys running your vac line to and from? Comp housing straight to the gates side port is best

my vacumeline starts just before the throttle body and goes to the side port on the gate. i have tryed running a short line from plenum across the rocker cover and to the side port and that made no difrens.

Are you guys saying that with w/g off manifold it still makes boost????
If ths is the case, then some thinking is required in how its connected to maifold.. It seems the path to turbine is better than w/g????

this guy is on the money... the problem is getting the gasses out of the collector, which is especially difficult when the gas velocity is high enough

im yet to drop the wastegate back off and try it, i think now that maybe my piping is good enough, and i may just need the bigger gate, the test will soon prove it either way (ive been very slack, got way too sick of working on it)

re. EBP, generally in most street type turbo setups, you can see anywhere from 1.5-2x the inlet pressure in the exhaust manifold.. so then youd need to calculate the area of the valve, and times that by the EBP

You shouldn't get that imuch of an increase over the spinrg pressure setting.

Cold air and wet air is more dense so you get higher readings but should only be by around 2psi.

Mine is a 7psi spring and I get 7.5-8psi.
8.5psi at the most on low boost.

this is absolute s**t.....

took gate off tonight, gave it a run in 4th, made 16psi at about 5000rpm, thats when i backed off

SOOOOO, now im going to add another wastegate, ill run it off the turbine housing... that should fukn control it

my summary is, a GT3540r .7 1.06 is too small for the 4l in a well designed, high flowing system. i should have bought a GT42R

I wouldn't stress about it, you didnt really design and build this set up to run under 300wkws did you?
I think you just have a great example of how a well designed, hi flowing set up performs... tune it for high boost and enjoy it man.

If its tuned rich and retarded this can lead to turbo doing this alittle as unburnt fuel will burn in manifold / turbine...
A higher trim exh wheel can help BUT this will be at the expence of low rpm spool....

What he said - Aaron's car is also a testiment to daily driving with fair amount of power on tap - Aaron has done many kms and changed many things under his engine bay - the only thing still there from Day 1 (AFAIK) is the GT35/40.

Still hanging to see what results you report to us though :)

hoorayyyy, put an end to my overboosting, got 8lb now on the wastegate spring, i gotta get a new spring cos ive cut that bastard, and cutting a spring increases a springs rate..

ill get pics later tonight

bloody oath nim glad its over, was sick to death of taking my manifold on and off, did it 3 times in total, but spent a lot of time testing, wastegate on and off to remove its valve, diferent gate hose setups and pressure testing

heres the pics, it now works beautifully....
