What are the benefits of VCT - Variable Cam Timing?

To my knowledge it is currently used in the Ford Mustang

Could you please list the benefits known.

you'll also find it in the xr6 au and on from there =)
pretty much comes down to the ability to constantly change valve timing. power and economy and all that.

yep, thats pretty much why it was introduced as standard. gives a much better ability for tuning on the fly by the ECU

Note that there is a major difference between the AU system and BA system, and also minor differences between the BA and BF/FG systems.

Yep, Wikipidea will be a big help, basically alters the camshaft positioning on the fly. this thread should also be in the 6cyl workshop, not FI

It shifts the torque curve as the revs rise.
