Doesn't when the throttle body shuts, the turbo is still spinning, so since the airs got no were to go the pressure in there jumps up pretty drastically? So that pressure pushes open the BOV which relieves it.

funny, I just checked turbo mustang and it doesn't even mention anything about BOV's.

yes thats how the real cheap 1's work, but there are not good.

the good 1s works by a pressure difference. there is a vacume line going to the top of the piston from the plenum and also a spring. so if the throttle is open, there will be an equal amount of boost pressure on both sides of the piston, plus spring pressure therefor keeping the piston from moving.

when u back off on the throttle the is a pressure diffrence on ether side of the piston. there will be low pressure(vacuum) on top of the piston and boost pressure on bottom of the piston therefor boost pressure opening the piston.

the vacuum line is mainly there to stop boost leaking under full boost.

they stop u blowing of intercooler hoses all the time plus reduce spool time because it keep the compressor whell spinning.

I would assume that's from a really heavy spring in the BOV causing it to stay shut untill there is a reasonable pressure difference between the inlet manifold and the intake piping.

The waste gate makes that noise also...

what noise??? certainly wouldnt say the gate sounds like a BOV

Yes you are right I was pointing out they do make a noise...
It makes a chatter , chatter noise...

Aha I thought the chatter was compressor surge from an overly large turbo fitted to a tiny engine as I've only ever heard cars fitted with over sized turbo's chattering. Maybe the wastegate is trying to control the boost pressure but struggling to keep up.

Wastegates also cough (rather than sneeze) in most turbo cars.

ok, been thinking about the claims of wastegates making a chettering noise, personally, ive never heard of it, but thinking about it tells me that maybe if you have the wastegate signal hose coming from the comp outlet (somewhere before throttle) then maybe when you let off the throttle, the sudden pressure spike would be enough to pulse the gate open??

mine is certainly compressor chopping

Waste gate chatter is heard as the turbo begins to build boost. When do you hear your compressor chomp?

as per discussions on first page, we were talking about when lifting throttle while on boost...

I get ya. I think that's wastegate chatter as I"ve heard a few VL's and some turbo fords chatter when the throttle is snapped shut.

certainly not, you will get the compressor making a flutter noise if you run even 2 psi and lift off, even take the line off the wastegate so it WILL NOT open and wind up a couple of psi and lift off and it will flutter... it is made really loud by running a large turbo with a short big inlet pipe and a pod on the end

theres a video floating around of fritzz's car, just a small stall up with the bonnet up and it revs up a bit then backs off and chhh chhh chhh
