hi guys, i currently have the 1/2 inch spacer on the standard explorer (AUXR8) intake manifold. would there be any benefit of using the 1 inch spacer. One reason these things work is reducing the intake heat, but not sure how the longer runner principle works. does a longer runner mean more torque, etc.

Generally longer runners equate to increased torque downlow, but become a restriction up high.

I orginally had a 1" spacer, and it has clearence issues big time even with a modified raised bonnet. i had to go back to the 1/2" spacer, and even that only just cleared with the raised section. With a standard bonnet i think you will hit with the 1/2" spacer. the 3/8" spacer works though with standard bonnet.

basically the principle behind the spacer is to reduce heat transfer/soak into the upper manifold too allow cooler air to come in. You wont notice a huge difference, and personally i would only do it if i had too, better modsa out there to do for power. only reason i had to do it was because i have raised rocker covers.

hope that helps a bit.
