Hi All, I have a 1991 EB Ford Fairmont 5.0lt V8, when I start the car, there is a load noise coming from the right side of the engine, I got under the car and could feel hot air coming out. Not sure if its coming from the exhaust manifold or head gasket.. Checked the oil, all clear, I dod flush the coolant out the other day, looked ok... can anyone help with the probable cause... cheers..

Is it a loud ticking noise?

from where i can feel the hot air coming out between the exhaust manifold and head gasket, there is no sign of any liquid leaking anywhere... today i took off the exhaust manifold and it looks ok... is it possible for the head gasket to leak hot air...

Check rear of RHS head.. There is an EGR exhaust port there..
It should be blocked off...Maybe a head from left side has been fitted on right ??
Where the power-steering bolt blocks off port on left head..
Check EGR near throttle body...
This port here .. I use it to check back pressure on turbo engine..

The exhaust manifold looked ok, but what about the gaskit that come off? Usually if an exhaust gaskit has leaked, you will see it - around the ports that don't leak will be a small carbon ring, the port that leaked will usually leave traces of carbon from the port to where it was leaking.

A little hard to explain in words, but if you look at the gaskit you may see what i mean.

Cheers

hi, just had a look at the exhaust manifold gasket, looks ok from what I can see.. But I have just noticed looking at the lower part of the cylinder head, there are 5 bolts that run along the bottom of the head just below where the exhuast manifold bolts into the head, well I've noticed that 2 of the 5 bolts, the heads of those bolts have come off at some point, could this be causing the probs... thanks
