Ok well im slowly making the plans for my landau and ive relised that everything needs to be planed out b4 i really get into it.

Currantly looking at engines, what would people sugest.
The car is currantly running 351c fmx.
Possibilities are 460 but fuel being what it is it will be expensive to run even though its only a weekender

Rebuild the 351c, nice freash motor with cam ect to give good power but once again fuel......

I was thinking what about a 302 windsor out of an EF/EL or AU, Injected which will be better for fuel......nice newish engine. But there is the down sides such as emitions and just the look of a 302w in an old car.

And also power.....can i get a decent amount of power out of a EF 302 for the same price and power out of a 460 or 351.

So many options.

Also then there are gearboxes but ill work that out after the engine.

So post your thoughts and tips, Im a V8 newbie unfortunatly so expect heaps of question :)

Another alternative is a 351Clevo on STRAIGHT gas. If you get it done by someone who knows what they are doing , you can have a very powerful V8. You only lose power when you go duel fuel , as you can not properly tune the car to keep both fuels happy. (its basically a compromise between the 2).
Im very close to changing my 351C over to straight gas!

yeah i was thinking straight gas but i dont want the tank in my boot (other plans there)

So maybe once ive gotten the fuel tank out ill be able to see how much workable room i have. That would mean a new floor in the boot which isnt to much of a problem...hmm. I spose if once the fuel tank is out i can get a gas tank in underneath then i could always get some stainless steel and fold it up to cover it and make it into a fake a** drop tank

What year is the Landau? Not much in the way of emissions to comply with mate, you could pretty much put anything you like in it.
All you have to do is comply with the emissions to the year of the vehicle.
Personally i'd stick with the Clevo, it doesn't take much to extract power from them, but it all comes down to how much you want to spend.

why not rebuild the clevo and run an aftermarket EFI system on it?

the landau is a 74. For some reason i had the emisions laws around the wrong way, i thought i had to comply with the emisions laws for the year of the particular engine rather than the year of the car.


Have u got anymore info on these efi systems interceptor?.


Lets say that expense isnt the hugest of my worries, as this is a long term project. Within limits of a***

Ive just put a new 351 in my xb and my I was told that you have to comply with the emissions for the year of the engine, not the year of the car.

I think NSW might be different.
If that were the case i could put a 302W out on an XW into my AU and run a Holley on it! I'm 200% certain they wouldn't allow that.
A few years ago my mate wanted to put a Clevo into an 89 XF ute, Vicroads told him he couldn't do it, even with straight LPG (Got me f**k why).
They said you have to put an engine that complies with the year of the car or later, which was the injected Windsor, back then they were 5k for a complete runner, by the time he would have finished working the thing it would have cost 20k.
He ended up canning the idea and sold it.

there's dozens of options for aftermarket EFI computers, from DIY megasquirt units to more expensive multi function units from WOLF, MOTEC, Holley (Pro-jection) etc, as well as doing a DIY job with an ECU from an existing car like a DELCO unit from a commodore

as for manifolds, there are options like using an EFI throttlebody setup which will bolt onto a squarebore manifold, finding a manifold for quad webers and using weber style EFI throttlebodies, or getting a manifold machined for injectors and using a throttlebody purely for TPS and airflow control

best to look around on some american forums for stuff like this, but if you want to go aftermarket EFI, you can pick and choose pretty much as you want

IIRC its either bring the engine up to the emissions standards of the car, or bring the car up to the emissions standards of the model car the donor engine came out of, whichever is later

I remember back when i bought my XD in 90, i was looking up engine codes etc and found that NSW had a different code compared to the rest of aus because of their emissions laws... maybe they're like California and have tuff restrictions compared to the rest of the country.
I guess the best thing to do is call authorities (Vicroads and EPA) in your state and find out where you stand.

Thanks for the reply's and info everyone, So far it looks like i should stick with the clevo, maybe stroke it?? Either go injected or gas, Have to look into the gas more with gas tank install as i mentioned earlyier which i might have a look at tmrw. Feel free to keep the advice coming as nothing is set in concrete for pretty much this year, got the body to look after first

Good to see someone with a big old landau!
if you do put in a EB onwards 302 windsor, all of the emission stuff will be needed i believe.
Cat convertors, etc etc
There is a few fuel injector systems for the Clevo, there is a 4 BBl Holley Projection fuel injection system too.
The whole system bolts onto the 4 bbl manifold where the carby used to sit.
I dont know much about them though.

Here's a pic of my 351C using all Ford electronics.
It was good enough for high 12's in full street trim.
The same could be done with a 460 or an FE bigblock(which I'll be doing for my '69 Cougar) or any engine for that matter. In fact you could obtain an EFI 460 from a '90's model F-series truck. Then if you want to modify it switch to 5.0 MAF electronics/harness.
