hey guys. all but bought a 73 galaxie with a 400 in it. from what info i can dig up easily (without joining a forum of course) they are supposedly an emmissions strangled moter. discounting the obvious like exhausts , carby, (which will be changed eventually if needed), and fitting a more free flowing intake, are there any home garage friendly mods/removals possible.eg can the egr be bypassed/blocked etc. anything that frees up horsepower and improves mileage on this big old girl would be a bonus. just to sweeten the deal it is set up for dual fuel(lpg) use. What difference will this make to the setup. Cheers.

Mate, its a big 351 cleveland. Whatever can be done to a 351 (which is s**t) its the same on the 400.
As a matter of interest, the 400 is an orphan to perf mods, but all of a sudden, with the crop of alloy ford CHI heads, a real performance bargain.
Check www.enginemasters.com and see, there is 8 entered this year.

cheers mate. that sort of tallies up with what i've looked up, being a big 351 but can you be a bit more specific about the modifications,ie what to actually remove/block off/alter or even leave alone. Some info i've read says to get rid of the EGR (on other engines not the 400) yet others say to leave it as it will assist in gas cooling on the pistons allowing more/less timing more power blah blah. I need easy info for a guy handy on the spanners to do minor mods. It will be a while before I can justify money for anything in the near future, and it will give me a chance to have a bit of a fiddle and learn a bit more about the car. Thanks
