Howdy.

Just out of pure interest, has anyone driven a 200-220kw 5.0 litre Windsor, back to back with (preferably) the SOHC 5.4 or the BOSS?

If so, how did it fare?

I drove an AU3 pursuit250 back to back. First I drove the XR8 260 back to back with the pursuit 290 and then jumped straight out of that and into the pursuit 250 5.6ltr (demo model) I drove home with the car that felt like it had more balls and had that raw feel you expect from a performance car. If I ever decide to trade to a 5.4 boss I would go the xr8 as back to back I cant see $13000 worth of extra value or performance.

Opinions vary so lets please not get upset guys it's all about personal preference.

i've driven a 5.6L windsor and the 5.4 BOSS 260.
although not back to back, the 5.6 windsor stroke just has that raw performance car feel, 5.4 feels a little too tame for me.

Cool. So the XR8 wasn't too far behind the GT?

I would LOVE to take a 5.6 for a spin. They'd be a weapon, I reckon.

You taken an XR6T for a spin?

what diff ratios are the BOSS 5.4's running? The reason they may feel sluggish is due to the gearing...i'd like 4.11s in a 6 speed 5.4!!!!

haven't had a proper run with a GT yet. They start out with intent but Once they realise they are getting serious competition from an AU that might even beat them they back off and act cool. Normal 260's get the S**ts real bad when you beat them, which is more often than not. Having said that my next one will prob. be the 260 and with the 13K I save on the pursuit I will spend on Edit and Vortec.

on the dragstrip i can just beat a 220 au with exhaust and that there were a couple of 260 ba xr8s there with ex and filter from memory there dial up was 14.85 mine was 15.0 thats auto -auto manuals werebit quicker cause you can get them revving better the 5.4 seems to lack torque down low :? but they really fly at the far end 8-) but i thought they would go better for the power they make :?: 5.4 looks impressive when you lift the bonnet though  8-)

What the factory gets and what is real world are 2 different things matey. There are real world conditions, driver error etc that would factor in on that 15s quarter mile time.

Thats exactly right, and i have found factory times to be a bit off the mark aswell.
My Fairlane is rated at 16.2 from the factory, totally stock mine ran a 15.5 with 220,000 on the clock.

Yes factory ratings are generally crap. Toyota claimed it's GT-four Celica could post 0-100 in 5.2 seconds, the best motoring magazines could pull from the thing was low 7's...............

HSV have been know to quote extravagent times for their executives with more plastic than........a plastic factory....

hey the GT-4 has an awesome engine capable of some big figures. It just has a f**k woeful AWD system that bogs everything down. you can't launch. at all :p.
on of them in a sprinter would be a fun drift car! :p.
