Hey guys/gals,
Ive just torn my 5.0L block in half out of the EB and need some help on the rebuild. I have been given some advice that I would be better to go for a Dart block.
I need to know: What are they, how do I know what to look for, how much $ and where do I get one?
While Im at it I may as well spend some $'s on the rest of the motor, so if anyone has some sensible suggestions on upgrades/KW increase, I would be interested in your ideas. Other than any machine work, we will be doing all the rest ourselves, so the budget is around $6-8000.

Thanks.

What power were you putting out to split the block, they can normally hold 450-500hp without too many problems!!!!

Talk to EBXR8380 as he runs a Dart block on his stroked and turboed XR8. I would guess places like VPW (or any large importer from the US) would be able to give you prices and availability of Dart blocks.

It "was" a stock motor...
At the time I was running a 20/80 ULP/AvGas mix and it was under a reasonable load (4800rpm) at a burnout comp. About halfway through it coughed, misfired, nearly died then picked up again and run fine. The motor still started and ran afterwards with only a slight miss, but it was full of "caramel sauce". We stripped it down and cleaned it up thinking it might only be a head gasket, when I spotted the split along the valley near the lifters.
This is the second EFI windsor that Ive had fail on me in the last 3yrs, so Im hoping to build one that will take a bit more punishment.

 WOW you must give them a hard time!! I have never heard of a stock block cracking unless heavily modified (I am sure there is the odd occasion though), or have overheated big time or run out of oil. Even with 13psi of bost an already modified engine my block is holding up well and there are plenty of other people running 200+rwkw without problems, you are obviously just really unlucky. The Dart blocks will hold up to nearly anything but at around $5k the should too.

The dart blocks can be found for around 3500$, world blocks can be found for about 3300$

have you thought about getting a world crate motor??

power with a 2 year 20 000 mile warranty

they'll do a 460ci engine based on a 351w block that makes 575hp

I recently got my quote for the Terrorist Ghia Project and included as part of the package was a dart block for 3500. Speak to Granville Autotech, as they were going to supply my block

If your wanting to power it up (without boost or a bottle) heads and intakes are what holds the efi windsor back the most.

Thanks for your help guys.
I have just scored a Windsor block with a new stroker crank/rods/pistons for an absolute bargain, so for now Ill go with this and spend a bit on getting the top end breathing better. See whether this block holds up any better

g'day cobber

just curious weather or not your engine was ballanced and what condition your harmonic ballancer is in. if you intend to hold it on redline for burnout comp's might be a sound investment
