"They're" not afraid of electric water pumps they are just more likely to fail therefore it's safer to use a belt driven pump. If I still had a cleveland powered car I'd finish the serpentine drive system I was working on and have reliable single belt system.

you will most likely need to take the impellor off as it will deflect the flow of water, thus restricting the flow somewhat, and maybe even the distribution between the left and right sides of the block., which means pressing the shaft out, and welding the nose of it closed - prob much easier with an ally pump rather than a cast one. or look at running a meziere pump instead, a bit more $ though. |

tonyxd wrote: well against all the best advice i'm still fitting an elec water pump!!!! so please does any body know what i need to do with the origional pump, will it restrict water flow if left in place? If your set on using a remote mount electric water pump, you should remove the standard water pump altogether and use a block off plate. You will need to plumb the water into it to get the water in and out of the block. Check out http://www.meziere.com/ for there pumps and plates. They dont show it, but they do a plate for the 351C, to suit there SBF pumps. Not cheap though.....

I was looking at the instructions for a Davies Craig elec pump - they said to leave the pump in place and it would just flow past it - I was sceptical then, still am...

yes i think ill do the smart thing here and take the mech pump off and keep it just in case. i need a bit of aluminum welding practice so i might have a go at making my own inlet plate ect |
