I reckon you'd be right about that.
Besides, nowdays when a 40 year old car is rebuilt / restored or whatever, owners typically build them with current era parts and accessories so they are a very different car to their 40 year old originals.

I just read your other reply, green car - you seem to think an XD is a better choice? Its the same floorpan as XY!!!! Only difference is it has a whole raft of pollution equipment to deal with...

I think you missed the point of my post there champ, but i expected to see a few people have a cry.
I would take a street driven xd worth about 15-25 grand over a never able to drive ever $700000 shed queen, and if anyone ever got wind of it, it would be stolen.
Its only the bragging rights that matter to the people who buy these cars because they cant even drive them because of what they are apparently worth, they dont mean s**t to me...

yep, you seem to have missed MY points

1) I DO drive my car everywhere (and its viable $$ wise cos its on LPG)

and
2) value has nothing to do with power or driveability

and

3) Apart from a few different panels, the basic structure of an XD is the SAME as an XY or XB

If XY's aren't relevant to you, fine - don't buy one...but don't go bagging them for no good reason just cos they don't float your boat. I mean, i'm not exactly wild about Explorers but I'm not going to criticise them...

You have an xy gtho on gas do you, because thats what im talking about.
Talk about completely missed the point haha
How did you end up talking about your car running on gas and its not even an xy gtho?
Bugger me the article basically said an eb xr8 was almost as good as a phase 3 in outright speed and better everywhere else, what more do you want :?

As sad as the old windsors may seem today when compared to LS3's, Boss 290's and 270kw XR6t's, they were a hell of a lot of fun in their day.

I remember my first EBUII XR8. It was a manual and you couldn't wipe the grin off my face when I was driving it. Don't forget, 165kw's was a fair bit of power in those days.

For thier age I reckon they are holding up well in looks and a good one will still be a bloody nice car to drive. If I could find a nice unmolested example of an EBII/ED XR8 (or XR6 for that matter) with the sprint body kit and Probe 16" options with lowish k's, I'd be very happy tobuy it and hang onto it.

Good ones are hard to find these days tho!!! :(

Iv'e owned my XD for 19 years, but i wouldn't mind putting the running gear in a nice XT,XW or XY. The XD's just seems flimbsy and thin. In saying that, they are ok but.

green car do you honestly think an EB xr8 auto is going to be as quick as a phase III?

the phase IIIs were known to have around 340hp (255kw) and would at most be only 100kg heavier than the EB....wheels tested a phase 2 and it did the 1/4 in 14.2....the phase 3 was more powerful....they also tested a phase III and i think it did a 14.7 but that was with the tallest diff....

I honestly think an auto eb xr8 would run a high 15 but i didnt say that did i, the car in the article is a manual and that is what ive referred to the whole time.
Have you guys read the article?
Quote me if you want but im pretty sure i said almost as fast and better everywhere else.. because everyone knows its not just about straight line power on a race track and that is what the article proved.
