This is a Tickford engine, but not sure if it was a 200 or a 220. Was from an AUII XR8 ute.

well if it does have the handbuilt label and your still untrusting, pull a rocker cover off and check to see if it has some roller rockers in there

That engine now lives in a 1937 Nash hotrod.

I'd be inclined to go with Barnarcus on this.
Don't the 200's have a different inlet manifold as well?

The explorer was used on the 175,185,200, 220 as well. The only 200 kw motor i have seen had synergy 5000 on the plate/badge on the top of the manifold, although that was a te series.
I would presume the 185kw just had the 5 litre plate on top of the manifold just like the 175 kw get.

I thought only the 220kw motor was handbuilt by Tickford Technicians and then subsequently fitted with an engraved signature panel on the rocker cover. I remember Wheels and/or Motor did a big write up on it when it started.

But if that's the case, then what was that motor doing in an AUII XR8 ute? To my knowledge the utes only went to 200kw throughout thier manufacturing life??

Confused??

I had an AUxr8 and i'm sure the inlet manifold was different to the series 2.

Take of it what you will, it may or not answer your question, but food for thought none the less, as it mentioned a couple ways to determine the difference, including spacer behind throttle body or not.

I see the part about the spacer, surely the spacer would be on the higher kw model as don't people pay big bucks to get a spacer from herrod or something? Why put a spacer on the lesser engine and not the higher output version.......

i saw that page....not exactly the definitive guide....

spacer...a description or pic of said spacer would have helped

as far as i can tell the 200 got a better cam and maybe roller rockers...thats it ( I aint payin a premium for that...the 220 yes, the 200 no) also the only difference between the 185 and 175 was the exhaust...

so i may aswell start with a 175 and go from there (will be alot cheaper)

The 200KW got roller rockers (1.6) and are crane rockers.

220kw got the 1.7 yella terra rockers...

Apparently the 220kw motor runs a slightly smaller cam...
