the cam position sensor basically sends signals to the EEC as to what position the camshaft is in and when to open and close the injectors .....theres a special tool to align the centre shaft to the outer case ....just like a distributor

you need to align timing marks on tdc when removeing it ....best to degree the cam in then align it.....then you know everythings right

I assumed they were fixed position like the CAS on the 4L EDIS engines. Hmm, I'll have to check it out!

What should the base timing be? I assume it should be measured in diag mode?

i thought the same too .....till i went to put mine back in and realised that i hadnt marked the position correctly when i took it out....the local agent Fairview Ford in Matamata loaned me the tool to align it (top blokes)

if you undoe the two screws on top of the cover (au) with the motor on tdc the outer case has two slots cut in the front of it ....the inner housing (shaft) has one slot which should be slightly to the left of the centre of the 2 slots in the outer when standing in front of the motor

the elect plug on the front of the sensor should be in line with the camshaft

i would imagine it being fairly critical tohave your injectors firing at the correct intervals and by degreeing your cam in first your makeing sure your getting everything in its right place

Yeah, this could explain my issue. At 60,000KM my engine was replaced by ford under warranty. I'm assuming they would've swapped out the encoder from the old engine, and there's a slight chance they didn't install it correctly into the new one.

It really does lack power under 2500rpm on both petrol and lpg, however above 2500 it hauls a**.. Mine is the 185KW version, I've driven a few 175KW's which feel ALOT stronger.

Thanks for the info, I'll pull my cover off on the weekend and take a look!

Just a quick update on mine.. with the snap on scan tool plugged in we found that it was running 15* base timing. Looks like the cam encoder has been installed incorrectly!

How do I lock the timing without the scan tool? Is it the same pins I need to short out as on the EF/EL EEC-V ?

Will investigate further :)
