Is the EF a V8? If so its a fairly straight forward mod IMO, basically the same engine although there are a few little things you have to work around.

if thats the case not worht the drama

as a whole new wiring loom needs to be intsalled along with a new fuel system.
not sure if the lines are the same as the 6

i know i can work the 6

for a few grand i can have it at 220kw (and thats just NA not turbo or supercharged)
i already looked into that

but its not the power n speed im after
a 6 will never sound like an 8

thats what im after...
only the power of a stock 8 wit a nice exhaust
the only modification id do is put a unichip or sumthing with it and prob a cold air intake
im building a cruiser... not a speed demon
stock v8 power wit little things is all i want
if it can get me a mid 14's on the quarter id be happy

and even if i was to think to sell my car and buy 1 with an 8... how many ef/el have you seen for sale with an 8 and a sunroof?
coz im not gonna spend $2000 like the sunroof ive got now
that $2000 could go towards sumthing else

theres too much mucking around buying and selling cars
as my family is already trying 2 sell 2 of ours

seeing as my dad was a mechanic he will help me change lots of the parts coz everything done to my car mechanically, as in lowering, servicing, changing parts... has been done in our garage at home
we got a 4 car garage so i got the space and time at home to change things
ive already got an engine crane as well

so its just a matter of weighing everything up and seeing what i need and the money involved

ok u have a i6 auto and u want a V8 manuaL?
mmm

ok well first off you will need the V8 and the manual. also a complete new exhaust.
then the clutch pedal box and tailshaft for the manual, also the gear shifter and gear shifter boot

then a different fuel pump, and associated fuel lines
eg does the new motor have the fuel rails and injectors?
also you will need the V8 ecu
and the V8 wiring harness from a V8 EF
now this is a complete front harness from the ECU forward
ie dash has to come out to refit it
also u will need a V8 cluster for the taco to work

i am sure i have missed a few things
it is a s**t OF WORK
the money u spend on the conversion can be better spent on the 6 and getting more grunt in the end

ie a good exhaust will cost you $1200 alone!

As off putting as it is its all true..
Id look into getting a new car, thinking EL, v8, sunny - not THAT hard t find, theres harder to find trust me!
Im sure you could get a nice dollar for your car, looks tough - better than spending 6-10k on swapping to a 5L v8 thats been all chopped up n had a conversion on.
If I were you, stick it out with the 6 or advertise your car on carsales n just see where it goes, you might get a good price, and you might get it fast..

Check out Waggin's thread "Firey Fairmont"...

Now, that was a 302HO from E series falcon into the I6 EB... but you get the idea.

Fuel pump and lines will be fine. The XR8 engine will most likely have the correct fuel pressure regulator.

Physical fitment if the engine and box shouldnt be too nasty... not sure on the K frame but i'd say you need new engine mounts (with any luck these come with the engine, about $300 each from fomoco IIRC)...

Then wiring. I'd say an EF V8 ecu would be able to control it all ok but the MAF calculations wouldnt be spot on... also not sure if the AU engine harness would be compatible?!? You'd have to examine the wiring diagrams....

If you had access to a decent workshop and can swing a spanner reasonably well it'd be worth it.

If you have to pay for all of this to be done, do yourself a favour and sell the EF I6, buy an EF/EL V8 and work it up to 220kw spec.... i.e. heads, intake manifold...

Wouldn't you need to put in an AU ECU if you were to slot in an AU XR8 motor? I was under the impression that AU XR8's had bigger injectors so the matching ECU would be important?

Yeah i think the 220 had 24s. Fitting an AU EEC would probably be a nightmare (smartshield, dash/BEM integration...)

Probably best addressed by using an EF EEC with an aftermarket MAF calibrated for a 19# eec running 24# injectors....

yeah i can see what u guys r saying

the last guy i spoke to never said anything bout changing fuel lines or tail shafts

he was sorta old skool and 2 him it was a matter of changing engine and gear box...

but prob older cars as in XA XB were different??

i saw a few cheap ef/el fairmonts with 8
the thing is i know how hard it is 2 sell a car coz were trying 2 sell ours...
but ill think bout it
coz im thinking of a new paint job anyway
so if im gonna sell it ill do it after i buy another 1

but for the time being gotta think bout it...
