My friend has bought an EF 8cyl falcon, anyway i have read that the heads and manifold are a good upgrade so i've been looking for an inlet manifold. I beliieve the one mentioned is an AU manifold or explorer manifold.. is that the same thing? Anyway i would like to know where people buy them from and how much for usually? I rang ford to ask but they want $3000 for one... stuff that as i know you can get edelbrock manifolds for under $1000... so where do people get them as i could swear i;ve read people pay only $500-600 for one.

They come up for sale here every now & then.

Otherwise, check out ebay & ford forums as well.

Pretty sure you would be better off getting an RPM or RPM II if you can get your hands on one though.

Ive just noticed you can buy new edelbrock manifolds from america for only $550 AUD.. does anyone happen to have an idea what shipping would generally cost for an item like that as summit says they don't know untill they actually ship it.

Depends on how long you want to wait. Shipping is Dependant on type(air/sea,express etc). Also they charge by the kilo, and those things are not light.
Get one from Rocket, they work out very similar than importing your self.
As an example, a few years ago i brought some rocker covers for 180 Aus from the states, and paid 150 in freight, as i wanted them here ASAP. Took 3 days.
I also got some gardiner westlake bolts and they took 3 months but cost 15 aus postage.

Thanks, i forgot about rocket. The only place i had found the manifold here was VPW but they want over $900 which is why i was excited to see it for half that from america. Will contact rocket and see what price they can do.
edit: they don't have them listed amongst their edelbrock manifolds, ive sent them an email anyway so with a bit of luck they can still get them.

They are still available from Rockets, but also be aware that the heads on your friends EF are going to prevent any meaningful power gains from the manifold alone.

Combined with heads and a new camshaft however you'll see the power increase dramatically.

If you patiently look around you can get the explorer manifold cheap. I got my upper, lower , coolant pipe and 65mm throttle body for $350 delivered. Hard to beat at that price!

Theres an explorer on Ford Forums at the moment. They often pop in there also, and as stated e-bay is a good start aswell.
You will notice a gain with just a manifold swap, although as stated you may aswell upgrade to at least a set of GT40P heads aswell, they can be had for around 600-1000 depending and will give a noticeable gain.
If your gonna go for an edelbrock manifold i would steer away from the Performer RPM, the Performer will be good and the RPMII is also good especially if a nice set of alloy heads and cam upgrade is on the cards.

Basically if ya mate doest wanna replace heads i'd just go for an explorer manifold, mated up with a nice set of extractors will put you upto where the 185kw EL series2's started, which is a nice little set-up compared to the 165kw.

We are definatly going to be doing the heads and cam as well.
How big of a cam can you run before the ecu has problems, i was thinking of a cam around 222 @ .050 or would that cause problems?
Hoping to get away with ecu changes just yet until he can afford something decent.

You might get away with that. Probly wanna stay with 220 duration and under and at least a 112 lobe centre, 114 would be even better for the ECU.
Am currently going through a build on a mates EL XR8 170kw. Using explorer manifold, crow 621371, GT40P's ported and shaved 30thou, yella terra 1.6's, AU 65mm t/b and all to run on the std ECU.

When should this project be taking off viper? This is the path I was going to originally take so am interested to see what kind of gains you make.

Jeff, how long before your mates car's done?

No worries mate, anytime, be sure to keep this space updated.

Haha, how long before it gets started on is the question.
All the parts are there, just waiting on abit of cash for the install then he's taking it to Terrys also. Should be all goin by the end of the year. Booking it in at Terrys is gonna be the hardest part, as you obviously know he carries a pretty tight schedule.

Should be over the next month or two, he only just bought the car 1 week ago and i've bought his old EA 6 off him. He has the exhaust system planned first and in the mean time it's my job to source the other parts he wants, being the manifold, heads and cam.
We assumed the manifold wouldn't be quite that much at ford, considering the cost of aftermarket ones... boy were we wrong :)
