ok, so worked out the timing marks, put the new cam sync in. No more horrid squeeling noises with car nearly stalling, and running reasonably well on LPG.
But... running even worse on petrol, idles like a pig and as soon as theres any acceleration theres just a massive flat spot followed by near stalling... Thinking maybe injectors??

The car has been on Dual fuel most of its life, and we susspect a valve issue arrising, but doesnt seem too bad as yet.

Would like to check for any errors with comp... can it be done at home or do you need special equipment?
If it can be done at home, does anyone know the fault codes and how to read them?

To top it off when taking it for a test drive after the camshaft synchronizer was installed, the auto started clunking into gear really hard and slipping... :?

Sorry for the long winded vent. I'm just not sure what to do with it next

Hi,

Try reading this thread, XR9UTE posted a pdf on the ignition system. In there is info about the cam sync if it helps.

Cheers.

If it was a valve issue surely it would do it on Gas aswell a petrol??

Check the fuel system out, start with Fuel Filter as it's cheap. Then look into Fuel Pump, injectors and most unlikely the fuel regulator.

update---
Cracked the s**t and took it to ford. Asked them to take the camshaft sync out, make sure it was all alligned and intalled properly, then do an ecu diagnostics (quoted $150)... mission being to get it running on petrol as it had been a cpl wks ago...
Get a msg saying to come pic it up i owe $50.
Get there and they've done a diagnostics which showed a cam fault.. with a note saying that due to its extended life on lpg it would probably no longer run on petrol due to vavles... I said " so u took the camshaft syn out and re-installed it and it still has that fault?" aww no, we just did a read out.. " what? u were asked to re-install the camshaft sync and then do a diagnostics.....
Anyway, he brought the supposed head mech in who stood there and tried to tell me that its all because its been on gas. So i got agro ( being a female im allowed to :P ) and told them that the "F***'ing thing was running FINE on PETROL and gas b4 the camshaft sync was changed, it was booked in with them to RE-Install the camshaft sycn and THEN do a Diagnostics to make sure its wasnt a faulty camshaft sync"..
Which they did the second time, which made no diff except rule out camshaft sync.
after talking with another mechanic they kept the car another day and found the mass air flow sensor was screwed.
If you unplug it, the car runs on petrol, a lil rich, but it runs.
They wanted $400 to put a reco one in, so we took the car home, bought a reco'd one from melb and put it in and made no diff.... second one faulty too maybe ???? *sigh*

Car is now for sale

Tried cleaning the MAF hotwire? More often than not, 'faulty' MAF's are simply dirty MAF's :)

Just get some electrical contact spray from Jaycar or similar.. give it a good soaking.

Unfortunately I've seen a few of these "reconditioned" mafs that are stuffed before being fitted.
I found this on here...
post1034502.html
Also remember that you can get the electronics(ie the sensor itself) from another MAF of similar year(so it has the same connector) and use that, no need to buy the whole housing too.
Oh and take the f**k LPG off...no backfires to blow up MAF sensors then.

I had a similar problem with mine and I'm thinking it might be the same with yours too as your only having problems when on petrol. Mine idled like a dog and stalled a handful of times when taking off. If I disconnected the MAF sensor the issue was resolved (apart from running rich, which is to be expected). Obviously led me to believe it was the MAF so I got another one from the wreckers but still had the same problem.

Long story short - replace your o2 sensors. Was found to be my problem. See below:

Thanks for info! Will check it out and update

Is there anyway to test if its o2 sensor prob without just buying new sensors?

I'm not sure about testing them.

If you do purchase some new ones, be sure not to buy the cheapest ones on ebay (about $40) as a few people have had issues with these including myself. Buy the genuine @ $55~ each from ebay.
