Hi, I've been hunting a power steering pump to suit an E-series V8 for a little while now with no success..

I called Tilford to day to see if by some miracle still stocked the pump, they didn't, I also asked if they AU PS pumps had the same part number, they didn't either..

My question is, is there any major difference between the two pumps or would I be able to get away with an AU one?

I need it pretty quickly and Ebay don't have much either, the only one is $280, AND they want my old pump too.. Seems a bit much to me..

Luke

No, AU pump is way different to the C2 pump the E series had. C2's were noisy POS's.
A Saganaw pump are better.

if you used the AU PS/AC bracket i couldnt see a problem in using it.
only part i haven't found out yet is what to do with the AC..
not sure if an E series AC pump will bolt to the AU bracket or if you could just use the AU AC pump, if not because of fittings maybe enzed or someone along the lines could be used..

anyone got both an E series and AU v8 AC pumps laying around they wanna check for us?

The belt runs closer to the block in AU than E-series. The AU bracket would have to be spaced away from the head for proper belt alignment.

The A/C pumps are slightly different in mounting, hose connections and electrical connection. It would however be possible to weld on part of the E-series A/C bracket and then run the E-series compressor.

Yeah it sounds too involved to bother with really, I can't see an advantage that would justify spending that amount on money and time..

Thanks though guys, answered all my questions :P

do you know how much closer the AU belt runs to the block compared to E series?

which part from the E series bracket would be possible to weld on?

you wouldn't happen to have photos of both sitting next to each other would you?

cheers

I typed this out yesterday but it didn't download to the thread.

I'll measure the difference in belt location today and let you know.

From memory the top 2 bolt holes of the AU bracket line up with the E-series a/c pump. I was going to cut the AU bracket off below these and cut a corresponding section (with the 2 lower bolt holes) off the E-series bracket. Bolt both the E-series and AU sections to the pump and get them welded together for proper alignment. This was a few years ago when nobody was wrecking the AU V8 engines and I couldn't find an a/c pump. In the end one did turn up so I never proceeded, but all the measuring and designing said it would be fairly simple and work just fine.

what if you are about to transplant an au 175 motor into your eb would the powersteering pump need to be changed back to the eb unit to work properly?.
