$13k sounds good but I am not realy too sure what the going price is these days. Series 1 AU's are often overlooked because of their relativly low powered 185kw engines, but they have huge potential IMO and would be a good choice. 180,000kms isn't all that much for a V8 either.

All the AU engines got the same basic engine parts though, so there is a lot of potential in the 185kw engine. Get some extractors and a decent exhaust, then upgrade the cam and you should be around the 230-240kw mark, enough power to give the R33 a decent run for its money. I drive an R33 quite regularly and they are very nice cars, but personally it would be hard for me to choose a skyline over an XR8.

I have a AU3 220kw Manual which is awesome to drive, slightly larger then the turbo charged Galant I owned (dont hold that against me) but never the less you feel power when you are ripping through the gears.

If this car was a manual with reasonable k's available in my area, I'd buy it no questions asked. They are such a hornbag of a car :)

Keep in mind though that if you get an AU XR8 (1, 2 or 3) and plan to mod it anyway with a full exhaust & cam, you'll get a very similar end result in rwkw and $$$ cost.

Their power output only differs greatly when left stock.

So, AUIXR8 = 185kw. Add full exhaust & cam (let's say $3000). As EDXR8 said, around 240kw.

AUIIIXR8 = 220kw. Add full exhaust & cam (again, $3000 as same parts being fitted). New power = 240ish kw once again.
