HI
I have just purchased a 200kw AU2 XR8 motor and auto gearbox that I want to put into my 97 LTD 5.0.
The ecu and harnesses all came with the motor.
Does anyone have any tips or traps that I should look out for with the transplant.
Is it better to re chip the existing computer or can I use the XR8 one (will smartshield work)
Thanks

Look to be a 220kw, the 200kw got crane 1.6 roller rockers, the 220kw copped 1.72 Yella Terra's.

Bargain!

Thanks for the reply's.
I was happy to see the Yellaterra rockers.
I removed the coil pack and the wiring harness from the AU so I can use the original one is this going to make a difference in the performance.

I started to chase the EEC wiring harness to see how hard it is to change to the AU one is there a easy way to do this or do I have to just keep removing the dash untill I can get the room to change it.
I would rather use the AU EEC and keep the coil pack.

I got some prices for a set of Advance headers today $750 or $900 installed is this about right or should I keep looking.

I also got some advice on improving the brakes I was tolled that the best place to start is to upgrade the brake booster has anyone done this .

Hi
I need help
Dropped the motor in last weekend it went in easier than I expected.
I have hooker everything up but the starter wont turn over and I am not getting any power thru the trigger wire when I try to turn it over.
I have hooked up a wire from the battery to turn it over I have a spark and smells like I have fuel but it won't fire I have set #1 to the top of the compression stroke so the timing should be close.
Can anyone help

i would be keen to hear how all this went. how does the new motor feel in the car, big gains? what did you pay for one of them? did you end up using EL ecu, if so how did that run?

great project,
cheers

Hi
The LTD is up and running I had a bad earth on the auto that stopped it from firing has been fixed and starts fine.
The new motor has heaps more grunt I am still running 19 pound injectors and the old ecu so there should be more power to be had.
The motor auto and looms cost $1500
Dropping the motor in and hooking everything up was a fairly straight forward task.
Saying that I did need to modify the fuel lines power steering hoses and change the bottom radiator hose to the AU one for clearance on the bottom pully.
Its been the electrics that has given me the most headaches no mater how careful I was I always seemed to break the tabs on the connections.
So the EL ecu runs fine a new chip would be better and will be my next upgrade along with 24 pound injectors and a 70mm MAF.
Cheers

interesting, this is good to know. so its running fine with 19lbs, dizzy and the original maf? no pinging or detonating problems? what sort of gains did you get (using the seat-o-pant meter)

how long did it take to do the engine swap? what was required to use the AU power steering pump with the EL hoses and rack?

thanks
mate

good work!
