if you read the fordman351's recent thread on fitting a BA I6 to his EL that will give you some idea as to the electronic side of things, and than u gotta mount the motor and deal with the height.

And the overall size of the modular compared to the windsor.

To answer the question as simply as possible, it is REALLY hard. Stick with the windsor and spend the money on that.

Unless you have the time, money and experience or someone willing to give you their time and experience, it wouldn't be worth the hassle, there would be a high probability of selling it as an unfinished project for a big loss, on the other hand it would be cool and something different.

it can be done but IIRC you have to cut into the strut towers to clear the rocker covers

ohk, thanks for the responces, i had a sudden flash and thought i might look iunto it for a future project.... but yeh i was thinkin it would be a 2 year or so project.

obviosly being a big custom job, but i was thinking if it would be possible to keep it road worthy? would it need to be engineered or just apply for the engine conversion sheet at the DPI, would there be any issues running a full BA/BF drive line etc. diff, gear box..

besides the issues of physically mounting everything it would actually be easier to get a full BA/BF Wreck and swap full wiring/dash/engine/gearbox over and run full BA electrical systems

the modular motors are wider across the rocker covers than a 460 big block
but shows you how much room there is in a BA engine bay

It's doable and in fact E-series cars are easier because the engine bay is very similar to the B-series cars, in fact they are a smidge wider. X-series is more difficult but also not impossible...remember the V10 pics in my XG guy's?
If I was to do it without using the V10 I'd go for a 4.6 3V out of the current stang or the '03-'04 Supercharged 4V 4.6. BTW these are available for around 12K brand new...very cheap HP and massive potential! Try 800hp without going inside the engine!
The 4.6's are a little smaller too.
BTW the new Ford racing "Aluminator" is a great choice for a long block at $6500....it's all ally and built for big boost.

The reason I said it would be REALLY hard is because I figured that if you were to throw it into the too hard basket Pete, then for the rest of us mere mortals out there it would be way too costly. Although you were using the v10, if I recall correctly, you were saying it shared dimensions with the 5.4 except length.

Ahh well who am I? If I can do it why can't anyone else?
Anyway E-series or XH = easier than X-series.
Plus 4.6 into E-series = very easy.
I didn't throw it in the too hard basket I threw it in the "it will take too long basket" because i need the van for work...as it is I still haven't finished the 5.0 conversion.

It was at the AFD at Warwick Farm last year, they did a good job of it too.
