Has anyone attempted to put the boss 260 v8 in to a 92 EB Falcon? Will it fit? are there any problems with clearances for steering or starter motor etc?
Any information would be appreciated, Have a 92 EB Falcon with 4.0 6 cylinder (engine badly in need of replacement) and also have Boss 260 engine from BA XR8 (engine was for another project but was decided to use supercharged holden 6 instead due to lack of space in engine bay) |

It fits. It's been done on earlier Falcons such as XBs and XCs and they have smaller engine bays.

After a quick measure of the engine bay and a phone call to where the engine is being stored measurements look ok with the exception of the width. engine is apparently 800mm wide and the gap between the suspention towers is only 790. so close. i will have to confirm this by measuring the engine myself to check. Are the towers wider apart in the xb and xc falcons than the eb?

E-Series onwards is the widest of all Falcons. BA/FG isnt any wider either, I think someone on Fordforums measured both and even reckoned his NC was actually 10mm wider.

Also the widest part of the Boss is the front of the cam covers which bulge out a bit, and isnt anywhere near the shock towers when installed.

boss motors are massive, it can be fitted into an 'x' series but you have to remove the shock towers and/or fitting a RHS front end

Yep the BOSSes are big.
 This one is only a 4.6L. The 5.4's are taller and wider.

Here's my 2V V10 in my XG(XA-XG are the same). An E-series has an even bigger engine bay so...
 There is about 10mm clearance to the shock towers.

The 4V heads are much bigger.
I'm sure you wouldn't have gotten a 4V motor in there (not without mods).

I'll measure and let you know....the point is though, an E-series bay is 100mm wider!

Ok, measured both engines.
Width from the outer most bolts of the timing cover just below rocker covers is... 5.4; 700mm 6.8; 700mm From outermost point of the rocker covers(where the cam gears reside) the measurements are... 5.4; 780mm 6.8; 760mm Of course as Sturmovik mentioned this portion of the rocker covers are well forward of the shock towers so they don't pose a problem. |

Ok so after a lot of thinking decided the boss v8 was probably going to be a much bigger project than i was really prepared for for this car. Managed to swap it with a friend for a 5L v8 (not sure if it is a clevland or windsor yet guess i will find out when it is dropped off) out of a 1995 fairmont. This one comes complete with engine, 4 speed auto, all the wiring from under the bonnet, and the computer as well as a nice set of stainless extractors and the radiator and fans from the donor car too. Learned from other threads i have looked at on here that i also need the k member from a v8 eb (which i think i have ordered from a local dismantler, have a new dif on the way and driveshaft. and have also ordered a smartlock bypass to get around the fact my eb was not fitted with smartlock. what i am not sure of is are there any other electronic bits inside the car other than the main computer and the wiring loom going from it to the engine that i will need to complete this conversion. For example does the transmission require any electronic boxes or wiring looms from the donor car to work in my EB? is there anything else im forgetting? any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The V8s have a separate TCM (Transmission Control Module) that is mounted on the left side of the steering column, so you will need that too.
A complete dash harness would be the best way to do this. Cheers BenJ

I do not want to sound like I am discouraging you....but it would seem to me that you will probably spend a fair bit of money on building this car. Have you considered spending that money on an XR8 in the BA series instead, and pick up a car that the Ford Engineers designed to have a 260 V8 in, complete with brakes to cope with power, front end already sprung for the weight etc The Prices right accross the BA range are starting to come down, I picked up a GT last year for $33,000, with only 51000 ks on the clock. I was about $4000 dollars over Market value, but the car was in mint condition, the Original owner paid $61000 and then another $7000 to put a new car on the road... I reckon you could pick up a nice BA XR8 second hand, at a reasonable price these days, if you have a 260 motor already, then who cares if the motor is stuffed, as long as the Body is ok. Then you could spend what doe you have left on performance....you would have a car engineered for a 260 Boss. (less hassle) Just a thought anyway........
