Ive been told that only the BA XR8 and the FPV's got the 5.4L Boss engine, and that the V8 falcon fairmonts fairlanes etc got the 4.6L like the mustangs have....if this true ???.. it sorta makes sense coz only the XR have the bonnet bulge.....but im still a bit unsure.

All BA V8's are 5.4L. The reason the XR8 and GT have the bonnet bulge is because they have bigger heads which is why they make more power then the 230kw 3v version you find in a Fairmont or Fairlane.

why would you bother? the 3v has so much more potential then a boss, much better low down torque. but to answer your question i dont know, i doubt it would be a straight swap over

Hahaha. I wonder which one would overall be better for modding. You'd have to think the 4v would be better as the overall package, but it's no secret it lacks down low torque. Does the 3V have the power up top to match?

hahaha if i didnt have a 3v i wouldnt know how good they are ;) a 3v with tune, exhaust, airbox will beat a xr8 with the same mods til around 150km then after that the xr8 will take over, the cams arnt crash hot up high. the 3v has good withdown low and mid but cant match the xr8 up high. but power from 1000revs or 2500revs, which one would you pick?

The real reason the 3V does not require a bonnet bulge is because of its long runner intake that dips down into the vee of the engine. This results in greatly reduced height unlike the 4V engines' short runner intake which is all up above the vee.

yes all the blocks are the same design and will take a 2V,3V and 4V head design.

3V on the 4.6 and 5.4 have VCT
4V on the 4.6 and 5.4 have no VCT
2V in 4.6 and 5.4 No VCT.

you could put the heads off an xr8 onto the 3v bottom end. and vice versa.
