Guys,

Just had the bonnet up on my BA XR8 on the weekend - and with the motor running, noticed how "ticky" the motor is running at idle...is this normal? I put it down to being o/head cam, so a little noisier than normal. My mate's VYSV8 definately sounds quieter.

Also, I noticed that the tensioner pulley seems to be moving around quite a bit on idle...is this normal as well?

I am headed for the 30K service (tho car has only done 13K approx.) in October, so I will run it all past the dealer, but I thought I would see what you guys think.

There is no problem with power or drivability etc...just something I noticed that I thought may worth mentioning and discussing.

Looking forward to your thoughts...W.

Overhead cam shouldnt matter, with all the hydraulic lash adjustment on the rockers.

The ticking sound you can hear is probably the injectors, though it could be your leads arcing out, however i'd doubt it on a car at this age.

Pop the bonent in the dark, and see if you can see the leads arcing.

I noticed the same thing with mine as well. The local Ford dealer here, whom I find very reliable and honest, said it is the injectors. But they also noticed another noise that's common with the XR8 motors and that's the cam chain tensioners.
They informed me that in the early builds they used a heavy grade plastic but have since changed to metal. Quite a large job too.

Hope that helps a bit.
