Under drives are good, but be sure to upgrade the oil pump at the same time.

what exactly is the deal with the oil pump gears. and why should you upgrage the oil pump when fitting underdrives?

Two reasons to upgrade the oil pump - extra revs, and underdrives.

The under drive balancer, is lighter than the factory one, thus can't balance the crankshaft as well - resulting in more vibrations. As the stock pump is made from sintered metal (effectively metal powder that's squashed together). The aftermarket pumps are made from milled solid billet metal.
